Does anyone else hate the telephone?

16 years ago 0 515 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I found the phone kind of a trigger in the beginning, always wanted a cigarette, coffee while i talked. Then my second week i didn't want to talk to anyone or deal with anyone. I think it is just all part of the quit. Members, Stress is a normal part of everyone's life. There are healthy ways of dealing with it. You can change or avoid the sources of stress. You can change the way that you respond to stress and you can learn to relax by listening to soft music, having a nice hot bath or shower, going for a brisk walk, reading a good book, or practicing relaxation exercises. Sure hope you're not a telemarketer!! LOL, you would starve ;p Talking on the phone was a big trigger for me so when I quit, I found it hard to stay on the phone. I started pacing or doing stretches. It took my mind off of the craving and being annoyed that I had to be on the phone. I am sure the person on the other end was wondering what the heck I was doing. :) G My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 216 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,480 Amount Saved: $1,036.80 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 6 Mins: 4 Seconds: 49

ICL, try cold water in a nozzly thing & a coffee straw instead of tea & a smoke, and have your conversation in a different room than you usually do. The motions are the same, running water, holding something between your fingers, going to your mouth, sipping, etc. That's what you're really missing, the routine. If you must have the tea, have it in a different cup, try a different kind of tea, leave out the sugar, whatever makes it different to you. The junkie is persistent, but she isn't that smart. You can fool her pretty easily. Yes I avoided it as much as possible the first week. I was concerned about being on the computer in the evenings.. but I keep my water bottle by me.. and it has not been as hard as i thought it would be. Can you move the phone to a different spot.. and maybe a little tablet for doodling? I choose life, This seems to be a trigger, as you have associated it with smoking. Take your time to keep the calls quick. Use your determination and perseverance to move forward and get past this trigger. Get back into the phone area when you are ready and make sure you have a coping mechanisms with you, just in case. Anger can be a symptom of quitting, so take some you time and be alone to de-stress and relax :) Josie, Health Educator

Yeppers - I remember that time for sure. I hated it when people called. Evenings were my smoking time so I started making most of my phone calls on Saturday mornings (well that was after afew weeks of avoiding the phone altogether...) It's amazing how many of us go through the same phases...The "I can't stop eating everything" phase, "I can't stop crying phase", the "I hate everybody phase", the "I don't have any energy phase"...the list goes on....the great thing is that they are only phases...Life gets better every day! We go through funny little mood changes when we quit. Who knows why? But Sparky is right...it's okay. You can call them back. If you can let them know what is going on. Then tell them you will call them when you are more human. It is okay, really. This will pass.
