Don't worry Bear, I am on a new positive frame of mind. Certain words are currently banned from my vocab. :) I am not considering anything but success for each hour. I am in a clear frame of mind too! However, it is probably best nobody offers me to be the lab rat for the SSC smoking test :) I shall leave that for more confident bears. Hi Tresa, many thanks for your note btw. Kev without SSC = 2 days max Kev with SSC = 210 days! Without you I would have been toast ages ago. So I dedicated 7 month completion to you all. p.s. Even my old quit buddy is planning on quitting again! Today is a good day. Kev, I'm sorry to bring ageism into this but LOOK UP, man! You've got your whole life ahead of you and you want it to be healthy don't you?? Don't let yourself get to 50 or 60 yrs dragging an oxygen tank behind you... Pat, Nice to see you. I know you don't get too much chance to write. Right now, I have taken this quit down its most basic level possible. That is hold on just to the current hour and hope to stay smokefree during that hour. Make it through 24 of these and it is an amazing achievement. I really like your idea and from now on will give it a major go and this time not give up because I listened to a CD that said I couldn't do it. (Kev shakes Pat's hand and gives a sweet thankful smile) Then it is a deal! You did know how easily I am encouraged right? :) I will start by saying to myself that reading the SSC sister site as directed will not cause me to lose all will to live and start smoking. You know what? I am also encouraged by the fact that Tresa and Lizzie did not have it all plain sailing and they made those huge numbers of days smokefree. It gives me some hope. All is not lost. Right, I will work on the positivity project (I am in for the long haul now) whilst comitting myself to only looking at the current hour and nothing else. No more 'I won't last more than two weeks etc'. You just can't say that if you are only looking at the current hour. :) I am building my resolve and moving on and not wallowing in my own expectation to fail at any second. Oh, I have something to celebrate today. Yes I am officially 7 months smokefree. Which means that I would also like to congratulate Penguin and all my other July Firecracker/Extinguishers for when their days arrive. Kev, You're amazing. I'm sorry to see you struggling but so happy you're winning the battle each and every day. The support you're getting and giving is beyond compare. Keep hanging in there...I PROMISE YOU, IT WILL GET BETTER AND YOU WILL MAKE IT THROUGH THIS!!! You know how I support the positive thinking side of quitting. Here's a little practical something to read fairly quickly that might help you make it through another day. It's what I call the "fake it till I make it" approach to things. If it doesn't work, pull out this spare godzilla hammer. Pat :) Practical Instructions In order to turn the mind toward the positive, inner work and training are required. Attitude and thoughts do not change overnight. Read about this subject, think about its benefits and persuade yourself to try it. The power of thoughts is a mighty power that is always shaping our life. This shaping is usually done subconsciously, but it is possible to make the process a conscious one. Even if the idea seems strange give it a try, as you have nothing to lose, but only to gain. Ignore what others might say or think about you, if they discover that you are changing the way you think. Always visualize only favorable and beneficial situations. Use positive words in your inner dialogues or when talking with others. Smile a little more, as this helps to think positively. Disregard any feelings of laziness or a desire to quit. If you persevere, you will transform the way your mind thinks. Once a negative thought enters your mind, you have to be aware of it and endeavor to replace it with a constructive one. The negative thought will try again to enter your mind, and then you have to replace it again with a positive one. It is as if there are two pictures in front of you, and you choose to look at one of them and disregard the other. Persistence will eventually teach your mind to think positively and ignore negative thoughts. In case you feel any inner resistance when replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, do not give up, but keep looking only at the beneficial, good and happy thoughts in your mind. It does not matter what your circumstances are at the present moment. Think positively, expect only favorable results and situations, and circumstances will change accordingly. It may take some time for the changes to take place, but eventually they do.
