Hey Terry,
Welcome, It's okay to get advice from little sister.( and I think she is a great person) My daughter lead me to this site and I am so glad she did. Nothing says love like wanting you to be better to yourself.
I will have to admit at times I was mad at her because she had done it and I wasn't sure I was going to.(jealous maybe)Duhh! LOL It is not easy having daughter teach Mother.
This is not the easiest thing to do but it is so worth it. I smoked for 47 yrs. and I had no idea what I was facing by quitting.
It is a battle with the brain so get prepared to look at yourself inside out.
I look forward to watching you grow and offer a helping hand anytime you want it.

Wow well this is wonderful. I made my quit date for a Saturday because I turn into a monster when I don't have a cigarrette and I really like my job! LOL Thanks for all the support.

Congratulations, Terry! You've taken a big step. What works for you may be different from what works for others but I will share with you what I did leading up to my quit date to prepare. First off, I set my date for a Monday, since it's been very cold here and I'm too much of a weeny to go outside at work to smoke when it's cold, so I knew that would help, having five days at work. Then I spent the entire week leading up to my quit date thinking of how great it would be when we go to Cuba in February not to worry about grabbing a smoke before going through airport security and then how fast I can juggle luggage to get one when we land and before we climb on the bus to our hotel. I also thought about how great it would be to tell my son/husband/mother/father/friends that I'd quit and how great it would be when I put away the ashtrays and there would be no more of their dirt and smell in my house. I really concentrated on those and other benefits for a week and by the time that Monday rolled around I was way more excited than I was scared and nervous. I still focus on those things and it's helped me get as far as I have.
Anyway, that's what worked for me and maybe those suggestions will help you as well.
You can do this. Remember, pretty much everyone here felt the same fear and nervousness that you are right now and we survivied. :)

I'm so happy for you that I'll even let you think you are wiser. ;p
Bring on the tips, guys. No one wants to be lectured by their just as wise, younger sister. I'll let you all lead the way. I'm just here for comic relief.

Hey everyone. My name is Terry. For those of you who know Kelly, I'm the older wiser one.:) I just set my quit date 2/9/08
I've smoked for 35 years and last year I cut down to 10 to 12 a day and have been cut back even further in the last month or 2. That's it I guess.
