Great babble Shevie. My husband and I met Shevie in Arizona this year - he babbles pretty well in person too! Nice to read your words again. Oh how I've missed your babbling!!! So good to see you posting again! I really have missed you, and while the quit has become "natural" for me as well, I still LOVE to read every word you write just as I did when I was a few days quit and struggling just to survive! Your words are as true and awe-inspiring now as they were nearly 2 years ago! Thanks for stopping by! Don't be such a stranger, k? We all miss you around here! Crave the Quit! Thanks Shevie for sharing your experience. It is helpful to know that after the uncomfortable part of this journey, there is light. So far, it's been very difficult, but I think it's worth the pain involved in order to attain the of the positive benefits of quitting. Congrats on your 694 days! Shevie - thanks for this wonderful post. There is so much wisdom in it. You are so right about the power of knowledge and not assuming your quit will be like someone else's, or even like your own past attempts. As someone who, this time around, is having a very easy quit, I am particularly on guard (as you said) to make sure the addiction doesn't try a sneak attack. I do worry about the future, so I've been reading lots of old posts from successful quitters like yourself and just learning. Basically I'm trying to indoctrinate myself to think like a non-smoker and to not see through nicotine-distorted eyes anymore. Congrats on 694 days! Very impressive. - Freemom My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 238 Amount Saved: $77.52 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 5 Seconds: 33

Hi, all. Long time, no read. Ive been looking over recent posts and thought Id babble some babble for a bit. Its babble from my reflecting on my time of freedom; the things Ive learned from myself and others. Hopefully, someone will get something from it. If not, as Ive said before, I do like the sound of my own typing, lol. As you can tell from my stats, Im closing on two years quit. Cool, no? Yep, pretty cool. But no big deal anymore. Ok, ok, calm down. It really is not a big deal. The first year is a big deal. The first 6 months are a bigger deal. The first month is an even bigger deal. The first week is still yet an even bigger deal. The biggest deal? That first cigarette you did not light up. That first unlit cigarette contains (yes, present tense) the courage of your convictions, your promise to yourself, your hope for your future, the door to your freedom. As long as that cigarette remains cold, your quit is secure. To you new quitters, and those not quite there yet, I have a few things to say. Youll read here, and other places, that quitting will be the hardest thing you will ever do. People will tell you about terrible craves, slips, relapses, the tiny chance you have to succeed, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Dont listen to them. Ignore what they say, forget what youve already learned. Thats their stuff, not yours. Do not allow anyone to define your quit. Thats your business. Your quit may be one of the horrible ones that finds you fighting every minute of everyday for months. Or it may be one of those easy ones where you just walk away from smoking with barely a twinge. The only way to know is to do it. One of your best weapons is knowledge. Forewarned is forearmed. Knowledge is power. Learn how to combat craves should you have any. Also learn the side effects of quitting so you will understand whats happening should any of the myriad emotional changes set in. Dont assume you will need the information, but have it just in case. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. Some would have you believe its all over in 72 hours because the nicotine is out of your system. Hogwash!! Tobacco use does a lot of damage to the brains pleasure/reward centers that takes a lo
