Like you, I had no real plan. One day I just decided I had enough. Be happy every evening when you go to bed realizing that you made it through the day without smoking. Celebrate every hour if you have to. Just turn this into a positive event in your life and you will see the days rack up. Yes, there will be some moments, but that is all that they are. The end result is to wonderful to give up just because of a moment or two. You can do this if you really want to! Hi wannabe Great decision! Sounds like you really want to do this. That's what it takes. Now, as others have said, get yourself prepared. Drinking ice cold water helps, self talk helps. Remember that if you were still smoking you would crave a cigarette every 20 minutes or so. Now that you don't smoke you can handle the occasional crave. It does get better...and you will feel so much better. The quit program workbook is very very helpful. Let us know how we can help. Welcome, you can do this. It may not be easy on some days, but hey it is so worth it. Just remember it is a moment or minute or an hour or a day at at time. Remind yourself that each crave is telling you that your body has started to heal. Look over the tools on the left and work them. Keep a supply of water, chewing gum (?) and healthy snacks on hand. Go for walks on your breaks. Enjoy breathing. Hi Wannabe... I would love to encourage you to also work through the tools, if you have not already. Come often, post often, these folks on the board offer some fantastic insight and support. There are a few that I can say "If it were not for them, I would have wanted to give up!" You can do this and the best part is "You GET to do this wonderful thing for yourself" and remember N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. Just thought that I would introduce myself and let you know why I am here. I had smoked for the last 13 years of my life and started at a very young age. I have been wanting to quit for quite some time but never actually put a plan or quit date in place. Yesterday I realized that there will never be a good time to quit and that there is nothing stopping me except for me! I had a hot relaxing bubble bath last night and gave myself a little pep talk about quitting smoking and why I should do it and reminded myself that I can do. There are so many example of people who have quit that it doesn't make my journey any more difficult than for someone else. I am hoping that these friends and family members who are now non smokers will provide me with the support I need. I started the patch this morning and have not had a smoke yet. This is a big accomplishment for me and I hope that realizing these little successes will help my overall success of being a non smoker for the rest of my life. I had read some of the other posts and felt a little more encouraged because of them. I want to Thank everyone that has posted inspirational messages and Ceridian for having this site available as a tool and resource. I wish everyone success on this journey as I am sure we would all be better off as NON-SMOKERS!!!!!
