Hi guys, Well, I had my absolute worst day at work in 4 years. I had tears in my eyes all day, I was so sad, I was thinking about my mom, who passed away last year,..I made no money..I thought about smoking every hour. Smoking thoughts are still with me everyday, but it has been so bad the last two days. I wanted to give up so badly. Why didn't I give up? I do not think that I could ever quit again. If I go back now, I will smoke for the rest of my life. I have "the beginnings" of copd (as my dr. put it). I would end up dragging an O2 tank around in my senior years, and cut at least 10 years off of my life. When we are in the "craving moment", it does not seem like we will ever feel better. But, thanks to scc, I know that I will feel better. As unhooked put it, short term pain for long term gain. Bimo, I will not give up. But, I am being honest so that you can prepare for what is ahead. And, thanks so much Sue. It is nice to hear that someone who quit the same month as I did is going through similar feelings and thoughts. I love the wine and chocolate also. (I have held off buying more chocolate covered almonds). But, heck, maybe I should go ahead and buy some. I know that rewards are important Galeh and Ros. I have made up my mind that I will have some hot herbal tea on my breaks at work, close my eyes, calm myself, and list my thankful thoughts for being smoke free...that is a great reward. I will be glad when i do not have to work so hard at this. Thanks for all the support everyone. Keep using all the distractions you can find. Hide under the covers is a good one and reward yourself all the time. The rewards have been a big part of my quit and still are. You have worked very hard to get where you are and you deserve a nice treat for it. Thinking about smoking is just a thought like thinking you are hungry, it doesnt mean you have to act on it, just let the thought pass on through. Keep up the good work, quitting is the best thing you will ever do for YOURSELF!!! hey New Me, good for you. This is so emotional isn't it? I cried today too, I thought about smoking also. I won't do it though. I quit. But all that anxiety sucked. I took care of myself tonight, I had a nice dinner with JOhn, some wine and chocolate and I told him, and I am telling you guys, I am fighting for my quit, because it is that important. I am worth it. So are you. Keep fighting. Hi new me, I'm glad you got through your difficult night. I'm concerned you aren't rewarding yourself enough - cigarettes stimulated the reward center in your brain (dopamine) it's important to replace that with new rewards, little ones that can happen several times a day, then bigger ones that happen at anniversaries. If you don't do this, it is easy to feel deprived and "hard done by" Rewards don't always have to cost money, they can often be free or very low cost. It is about giving yourself something, it can be as simple as a speciality tea or coffee after completion of a task, or taking time for yourself to do something pleasurable, a scented bath with candles, the time to take a walk in the park or the countryside, cooking yourself a special meal, or you could have flowers or a plant for your house or garden etc Be creative, you are special, you do deserve rewards for what you have achieved, now go and have them! gosh, I feel like the little mouse in sparky's image..that did make me smile, sparky, thanks. The night got even worse; got in a fight with my 21 year old son; threw a water bottle at him, started crying..uhk, it was an awful night. My son and I talked and made up and then, I could NOT sleep..tossed and turned until 3am. I will be going thru the motions only at work today. Man, that was a rough episode. There are a couple of girls that do nicotine lozenges at my work. Yesterday, I was ready to bum one..the logic.."it is better than smoking". But, here I am today, still nicotine free. I did not smoke. I just felt so miserable, panicy, restless, aggitated. Nicotine numbed my emotions. Now, I have to handle them in a different way. I did not handle them last night; I kind of lost it, cried and cried. And thanks, unhooked. I did buy myself a nice fabic art last week, nicley framed and ready to hang. Then i bought myself some apricot body butter. It was a great feeling and I do need to reward myself more often. As a mother with 4 children, I am not used to buying things for myself..you know, the old self sacrifice. Well, gotta get ready for work. I'll check in later. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 115 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,760 Amount Saved: $575.00 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 21 Mins: 33 Seconds: 17
