Trying again... and this time I'll be prepared

Good afternoon! I was so glad to hear your doing so well! Not easy I know. But I'm finding that the harder I make it in my own head, the harder it actually becomes. DON'T think about it! Get your mind somewhere else like you did this morning. Spending time with your little one, Listen to or play some music, take a walk, and drink plenty of water. Sounds silly i know, but it does help. Flushes the chemicals from your body, and gives the brain a break! Thanks for the chat last night! I'm so glad I could help in some small way. I've actually reset my timer a few times today without a smoke in between. Yippii! Hope it helps you as well. Stay strong!

Day 2 of seriously preparing for my goal of being smoke-free. I'm sure you all know how hard it is when you wake up in the morning and just want to smoke. Luckily, I was able to delay my first cigarette by a few hours! How? I don't know! I spent the whole morning playing with my daughter instead of making her hang out in her room while I take smoke breaks. That was an encouraging start. As the day is wearing on, it's getting a little harder, but I did get some good advice from chatting with Danno last night. I think I will begin setting a limit on how many cigarettes I can have a day and then setting a timer to let me know when I can have one... or simply reseting the timer if I am feeling strong and ambitious. If that has helped Danno cut back from 3-4 packs a day, I'm sure it can help me cut back from my 8-15 cloves a day! I also will be talking to my roommates and boyfriend today and trying to get them to sign up here. I want to build a good support system at home for all of us. Well, I'm just checking in today. Looks like I will have to post daily to keep this goal on my mind at all times. I hope all of the rest of you are going strong! I'll be on the messenger today (while watching football of course!). Jump on and say hi!

SieMarie, Welcome back to the SSC! We encourage you to rework the tools of the program and read through the discussions. Both are great ressources of quitting information. Keep us posted. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Welcome Siemarie from me too:) I can relate to you on many levels. My daughter was one once too, and soon she will be 11. She helped me on this quit. Long story; she's a very neat person... I don't think she will smoke. Regardless, smoking is not natural... I'm realizing that more each day. I hope the peaceful realization of not having to smoke (about every 20 minutes or so) someday fills your heart and overflows to a rich and long lasting relationship with you and your daughter. Kids are pretty smart, and you can be too:) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 375 Amount Saved: $93.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 16 Mins: 4 Seconds: 34

Welcome, Siemarie I hope you find the support you're looking for here. A lot of us have. And it is so wonderful that you are quitting now, and not waiting till your diaghter is older! Other than just quitting, what are you planning to help you? Many people have found Allen Carr's book to be very helpful in getting their attitudes straight. I used chantix, and found that to be very helpful. I quit with my son still smoking in the house, and it is okay, because I was clear that this is my quit, not his. He was considerate tho, and at first tried to keep his smoking away from me. Maybe you will inspire the rest of your house to quit too. Anyways...glad you're here and I look forward to sharing this journey with you -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 170 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,800 Amount Saved: $1,156.00 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 19 Mins: 28 Seconds: 3

Hey SieMarie! Thank you for the note you left on my post! You sound like you have a plan. GOOD FOR U! Just stick with it. I'm actually suprised at how well I'm doing thus far. I'm sure you can do the same. I've found the people here to be open and honest in thier journeys, and give honest opinions when asked. Use it! It has really helped me so far. I hope it helps you as well. If I can help in any way, please let me know. I also work online, so I'll be here quite often! All the best 2 U!!! Dan

Hi SieMarie, Welcome back. You will see me and my wife Sue in here a lot. Good thing that you are planning the quit. I did the same as you, stopped smoking in the car and smoked only outside in a certain spot. Since your room mates smoke you guys will have to agree to only smoke outside or this will be nearly impossible. Also, I have heard the term "embarrassed" before and although you mean well, I am not so sure it will be enough to stay quit. Please take the time to write out all your real reasons to quit, you will need this when day 2 comes around and your thinking well, maybe I will have just one. When you quit each time you have just ONE PUFF, your cravings get reset. So when you are ready dont even have one puff ever. Just remember N.O.P.E. Need to get some sort of commitment with your boyfriend as far as no smoking in the house, serious about that. Will see you around! oh and be sure to download the workbook stuff the SCC has to offer you. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 128 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,200 Amount Saved: $448.00 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 19 Mins: 49 Seconds: 13
