Anger is a normal response to many things and self control is possible yet difficult at times. My formula for dealing with anger has always been "When confused and when in doubt, run in circles s**t and shout but never, never get excited." Take some time out and just go Google the one word "anger" there is a world of information that is available to you. There are a lot of issues that come up and you will have to deal with. Some of these pop up as a direct result of quitting nicotine and its effects on the brain. Other issues are the ones that nicotine withdrawl can cause by unmasking under lying problems that smoking covered up. Good luck in your quit and keep reading and posting. edgy, anxious, short fuse, facing life on it's own terms, without our drug. You are aware what is going on and that is a great headstart on this battle with nicotine. We are drug addicts and you are experiencing withdrawal. You have a great attitude and awareness. Just remember, Not One Puff Ever..NOPE. Don't feed the anxiety; let it die it's slow death. congratulations on 3 whole days smoke free..that is soooo awesome. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 82 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,968 Amount Saved: $410.00 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 7 Mins: 11 Seconds: 14

Jessica, I'm in touch with that emotion! I am also an angry quitter. Everything & I mean everything PISSESS ME OFF!! Especially my anger management classes! You are doing the same thing I did, which is recognize the edginess for what it is, turn it over to the funny side & show everybody that. Otherwise, nobody would love me anymore. Those emotions do need to be dealt with but not right now, not during week 1 & not all at once. You are doing great, jessica! The only advice I would offer is don't forget how this felt because these same emotions will resurface as triggers & junkie thoughts further on. Just tuck that away somewhere so you're prepared when it happens. For right now, do whatever it takes, whatever you need. I know a guy who knows how to get rid of a body & snoring while you're in hell week is perfectly justifiable homicide IMHO!! Hang in there Jessica! The most important thing you can do right now is nurture yourself and your quit. Take a nap, veg out and watch a funny movie (or a tear-jerker if you need to let out emotions!), take a bubble bath, read a novel, go for a walk, sit and listen to music (you'd be surprised how many inspiring songs there are - you can do a search of older posts on these boards for ideas of songs to listen to). Do what makes you feel better. Remember, you are giving yourself such a special gift by quitting - it's just the cost of getting there can be high (but soooo worth it!) Don't forget to come here and post and read often for support. You are NOT alone. Most of us have been through the same feelings. And don't forget to REWARD yourself - it's really important esp with the early milestones (3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, etc)! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 140 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,680 Amount Saved: $571.20 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 22 Mins: 57 Seconds: 32

I'm not nervous, I'm pissed. Flat out. At the world. Well, for the next ten minutes anyway, then it will pass. By the way I have decided that (after thinking about the last time I slipped) anger can stem from PMS (lady issues) OR PMS as in pre-meditated smoking. You know, when everyone around you knows that you are quitting but you are waiting for those 5 minutes you know you will have alone and can take just one puff, slather on the lotion, gargle, and spritz the parfume, and nobody is the wiser and you hate yourself for doing it. Just a thought I'd share. Before, I suffered from PreMeditated Smoking, and that sucked. Yeah, I'm angry, in general. By the way, I'm on day 3 and guess what - I am STILL A NONSMOKER!!!!!!! I'm angry as hell, but a NONSMOKER!!!!!! and for whatever reason I have the need to yell it out right now. Perhaps to distract me from the fact that my husbands snoring makes me want to grab a baseball bat. I thought it was cute a week ago. I think this may be a side effect of marriage. See you tomorrow!
