Don't know what to do ...

Janna and Kiki Those are great inspirations for those who have smoking family members. It can be done! Janna, if you feel like it, a new thread about how you handled it when he was smoking and you weren't, would probably be very helpful to others who are dealing with the same thing. -aloha ps your pic on the couch says it all ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 147 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,880 Amount Saved: $999.60 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 13 Mins: 5 Seconds: 22

Faith - hang in there....hubby will come around. Or if he still smokes eventually you will be strong enough to be outside with him and not smoke. Janna - that is a sweet story! My husband & I are the same way. He never complained about my smell when he quit...but lately since I am now smelling good he has made sweet comments about my smell. Let's just say I am getting a lot of extra "exercise" :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 580 Amount Saved: $130.50 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 4 Mins: 51 Seconds: 43

Faith - Hang in there. I went through the same thing with my husband. He would always go back to smoking and I would follow. This quit (my final quit) I did it by myself. It hurt. I was mad at him. I was jealous he was still with his best friend (the cig) and I wasn't. We have a wonderful relationship - 18 years and still all over each other - and suddenly he was outside all the time smoking and I was inside. Almost couldn't stand him to kiss me with the smoke breath. Wanted to strangle him every time I smelled the smoke all over his clothes. Suddenly my soul mate was my arch enemy. Now the good news.... apparently he missed me too. Apparently my strength hanging in with the quit struck a chord with him that he could do it too. Exactly 31 days after I quit, my honey springs it on me that he hasn't had a cigarette all day and that he is never smoking again. Guess what? He is now at 33 days himself!!!!! FAITH - your name says it all. Have faith that what you do and the example you set will lead him to follow. (((((((FAITH))))))))) You can do it! Hi Faith, Let him spend his time outside with his poisonous friend. You stay inside and pamper yourself; read, watch movies, take a hot bath, have a delicious snack, take a walk, do your nails. Don't blame him, you understand the cigarette trap. Go after your freedom; a BIG congratulations on 9 days smoke free. You can do this. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 82 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,968 Amount Saved: $410.00 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 7 Mins: 13 Seconds: 50

Faith, You've gotten some great responses from your fellow members and I can only echo them. This quit has to be for you. There will always be other smokers present. Have you tried talking to him about how you're feeling? Or journalling? Start finding new outlets for those pent up emotions. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

I'm sorry this is hard on you. I think it would be good to identify your anger. Your really angry because the addict side of you liked your addiction and your jealous your husbands smoking and your not. Quiting won't work unless it is all about you. It has to be something you want.....and it has to be YOUR new and exciting journey. In reality.....if you remain a non smoker....it will be him who will be angry at himself and jealous of YOU!! Many a smoker has quit because of seeing someone they love, respect and admire get the job done. Love YOURSELF and your husband enough to do this. You can do this..one day at a time. lots of love Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 206 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,120 Amount Saved: $920.82 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 2 Mins: 2 Seconds: 48

Do you want to be quit? It is the only question to answer and the only thing you need to do is not smoke. I understand what you are feeling because I have been there. My husband and I have tried to quit together, and we have done it apart. I hoped we would have a fight so one of us would cave, and eventually it would happen. Those emotions though will come up eventually, whether it be wrapped around the smoking/quitting issue, or during another argument. They need to be dealt with, but smoking will not deal with them. It will not help. My husband is still smoking, and as much as I wish he would quit I will not make an issue of it. I am quietly quitting, and I will be an example. I am showing him that it is doable. I hope he will eventually see that this is a good thing, and make the decision himself. That is all I can do. For now, though, this is about me, and you know what...it is about time I did something just for me. All those feelings of anger, jealousy, abandonment, just disappear when I tell myself that I am loved and that I believe in myself. And you know what....he can just go jump in the lake!!!!
