BFS, if you're still around, I'm sorry to hear that you've relapsed. Maybe if I had called you on the junkie thinking when you first posted that thread, I could have helped. I won't hesitate like that again! I hope you come back when you're ready & I hope it won't be long before you do. I'l be right where you left me. p.s. I don't want to overtake this thread with posts to me about my slip, so I've posted in the avoiding slipping and relapsing section. If you'd like to respond to me, please do so there so this threadcan be used for its intended purpose.

Unhooked, WOW! I'm amazed at your incredible insight! I only wish I'd read this the day you wrote it... maybe then I wouldn't have fallen prey to smoking, just like you said I would. I've had "slips" before and I've dated smokers before and didn't lose my quit to them and I don't know what is different about this one. I guess when you play with fire long enough, you'll get burned... and I did. I'm smoking again and don't have the desire or dedication to quit again right now. You called it. I wish I could say you were wrong... I really do. But you were totally, 100% correct. Oh, how I wish I'd read this post a few days ago! Maybe I could have recognized the "non-smokers are boring" as junkie thinking and could have saved myself from this. Thanks Unhooked. I only wish this post hadn't fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps somebody else will get something from it. p.s. I'm showing my meter to show what I've thrown away. Newer quiters, please don't be alarmed or discouraged. Just know that you must always be on your guard. Even years down the line, the junkie can creep in and take over if you let it. This is my first serious quit. Only once before had I gone a day without a cigarette, in 36 years, and that was because I was out in the wilds and couldn't get to one. Every other time, with NRTs, welbutrin, I had always smoked at least one or two, so I never really quit, even though I pretended I was "quitting". This time..not one puff, never, ever..because I know if I do that, I am not really quit, and will continue that slide back into smoking all the time, every day. It might take a day, a week, a month, but for 100% sure, I will continue to smoke. Maybe there are other people who can just smoke now and then, but I think we all know that those people are few and far between. Anyways.....that's my answer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 148 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,920 Amount Saved: $1,006.40 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 17 Mins: 0 Seconds: 2

Ok, I wasn't sure just what "mooning" was happening here but I get it...This is my 678th quit, or thereabouts. Probably in reality it's around 40, but it feels like 678. I have not had one puff, I realized that I cannot have one single puff ever, that fact hit me like a ton of bricks in week 2. Perhaps quitting so many times taught me that...after all, one puff is what got me back smoking again those 677 times. When the thought comes across my brain that maybe I could take a puff from my daughter's smoke, I just remind myself how far I have come, too far to return to smoking and that even when the worst circumstance comes, I will not give in, I have worked too hard and far too long for it! My first quit was in 1988, almost twenty years ago. That is a reminder, how long I have struggled against this addiction. Never again! Not one puff ever and smoking is not an option! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 165 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,125 Amount Saved: $1,740.75 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 5 Mins: 2 Seconds: 39

Rock on, Penitent. Your positive attitude has been an inpiration for me from day 1 & I follow happily (even goofily!) in your great big, clown shoe footprints! A classic post Unhooked, thank you. It is not judgemental but reflects what I believe many of us were thinking. Back to the original question Cherie Penitent proudly announces NOT ONE PUFF EVER One Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty-Six Days, that is nearly 2 million minutes without even the smallest of drags, let alone a puff, a fag, a slip or a relapse. Oh and a smile along the way and I'm proud of that too!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1186 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,720 Amount Saved: 5,930.00 Life Gained: Days: 190 Hrs: 11 Mins: 34 Seconds: 58

Thank you, Lady. I'm so glad that you can see my intention and that I'm not judging or trying to hurt anyone. I hope BFS sees that, too.
