All the more reasons not to smoke. Imagine how good you will feel when you make it through this hurdle without smoking. Smoking isn't going make the situation better. I started smoking again when my 1st husband left me. Now I could kick myself, he wasn't worth risking MY LIFE for! You did the right thing by coming here for help first! I know and thank you Anna, it is hard to believe such a suttle feeling can cause such termoil in ones life. I'm hanging on, no worries yet, but I know when I start talking that way what happens. I've quit too many times in the past 3 years. But this time I'll try and put a stop to it. My excuse today is my girlfriend dumped me, one of my main reasons for not smoking was her and her kids. So I'm telling myself, hey why not, I deserve it...LOL BUT I WON'T, I WILL STAY STRONG.

Poker, you have come too far in this quit to just give up. Winners never quit, you know that. (except in smoking, that is!) Nicotine plays with your mind. Were you really happier when you couldn't breath properly, when you coughed all the time, when you were poisoning yourself? Or when you stunk??? You weren't happy, or you wouldn't have had the desire to change. Give yourself more time, smoking will always be there if you decide to pick it back up later. Don't give in yet. I guess I need to stop thinking of myself as being "born to smoke". I have been finding myself saying things like, "I'm tired of wanting", and "I'm tired of being a quitter" lately. It's almost like I'm trying to talk myself into smoking one, and letting everyone around me know its coming, so when I let them down I do it easily. I know it's a very self defeating attitude, but I have always been that way with myself. It was the only pleasure I got out of life, and its gone. It doesn't have to be gone, so why do I suffer and deprive myself? I need to remember why I quit, I need to remember day one. This sucks...why can't it just go away!!

No offense to anyone but I do think a cold turkey quit and a NRT quit are going to be different. I am a cold turkey quitter and my opinion is that it is much eaiser. Everyday has been easier than the prior. It just seems that an NRT quit is still addicted to nicotine so of course they are going to have withdrawals as long as the are addicted. Poker, you and i are no longer addicted. We did it. They are just thoughts and the well pass. let me remind you that there is no such thing as a confirmed smoker. I thought I was one too. Trust me, it does not exist. Hi pokerbrat and tryagain....the quote for today seems especially appropriate for you...
Having once decided to achieve a certain task, achieve it at all costs of tedium and distaste. The gain in self confidence of having accomplished a tiresome labor is immense. - Thomas A. Bennett
Everyone's quit is unique. While some people move on fairly quickly, others take longer...and still others take longer than that. I'm hoping both of you will find peace with your quits soon. It took me a very long time...but I did finally reach a point where I felt like I did it! You really will reach that point, even if it doesn't seem like it right now. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Pokerbrat I've been smoke free for 77 days and don't have many cravings because I've changed up my daily routine enough to distract my brain, but I went home to visit family over the weekend and I craved each and every day. I haven't been home since my quit so I havent' trained my brain to not think about smoking during my visit. I made it through the weekend without being evil to anybody :) In fact nobody even knew I was craving a cig. I think for some people it takes up to a year to re-train the thought process where cigarettes aren't a part of life. Be patient and remember to reward yourself because you've come SO far already My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 77 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,309 Amount Saved: $323.40 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 22 Mins: 7 Seconds: 32

Poker - Whine away. Complain, moan, whine, yell, cry. Do it all. Do whatever you need to do to not smoke. Tryagain - I hear you buddy! I'm just behind you, and my cravings haven't gone away either. I get strong urges anywhere from once to three times a day. Intense longings to smoke. It stinks. But guess what -- I haven't smoked. Neither have you. So, it's hard, really really hard, but it's do-able because we're doing it. So, to Poker, Tryagain, and everyone else --- PLEASE hang in there with me! I remember a bump when I came up on around day 60. Feel sorry you tryagain, I really don't think NRT or patches are a good idea but I do know of one person who has quit with a patch. Putting nicotine into your system when that is the drug you are trying to come off of doesn't make sense to me. It's like telling an alcoholic to cut back on their drinking. :quest: True you need to break the habit of what to do with your hands and so on but that is nothing. Your doing it the right way pokerbrat, there is no way better then to quit smoking the cold turkey method. Reports show it has the highest "Stay Quit" success rate. Cravings only last a few minutes, just get busy doing something and you will forget all about it.
