Emotional wreck!

Omg.. I started crying in the coffee shop :confuse: Thankfully I took a book with me and covered my face.. sooooooo embarrassing. I was out for 4 hours.. hobbled around the mall, went for the coffee and then came back just a 1/2 hour ago. As soon as I walked in the door I sobbed... oh dear. Thank you all for your suggestions and support.. I knew I had to come here and post. Getting it out in the written form and looking for help/suggestions is the 1st thing on my mind. Now I have to lay down for a while - I'm zapped in every way possible. I have to think positively that tomorrow will be better ---- HAS TO BE ! Thanks guys... and if you can think of anything else re distractions please feel free to post them. xo My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 320 Amount Saved: $116.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 51 Seconds: 20

Hi Sam Yes, this is common. But, for most people it doesn't last. I think it is due to a combination of factors. As bear said, you are mourning the loss of a constant companion. Also, the nicotine stimulated the production of "feel good" chemicals in your brain, so you might need to do some things to rev them up, like more exercise, laughing, dancing, making love, etc. Also, most of us used cigarettes to avoid dealing with unpleasant feelings, so when we quit we don't have much of a repertoire of strategies to use when we feel sad, angry, frustrated, etc. Writing is a good way to let them out as well as get familiar with them. And, as much as I hate to admit it, there is nothing wrong with crying ;) Also, watching movies for distraction is sometimes called for...either a comedy to get you laughing, or a sad one that lets you cry for someone else. It sounds like you have been using a lot of successful strategies for staying away from the cigs, I have no doubt you will get through this fine, too. And, naps are a good thing! -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 122 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,880 Amount Saved: $829.60 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 1 Mins: 21 Seconds: 32

It sounds to me like you are trying to discover new coping skills, and this is a very positive thing! We never know what is around the next corner, or what will happen tomorrow. These things just come from nowhere, and we have to try to anticipate them and develop a plan for dealing with them. Let us know how you worked through today! Tomorrow will be better! I have just been going along.. dealing with the daily craves, squashing them in their tracks, keeping busy with my sister, seeing friends, going out, keeping distracting, taking naps and then this morning -- BOOM ! I've been hit with the worst emotional upheaval ever and I can't figure out why? WHY? All teary, blathering out the strangest things.. can't pull it together. Bear told me it's because I'm mourning my exfriend... sounds like it is probably that but I HATE this feeling. I'm going out for a walk and then to my neighbourhood coffee shop. When I get home I'm going to lay down and try to relax.. Oh I so hope I can. I feel like I'm losing my freakin' mind ! :( Any suggestion would be really helpful ... please. I will check back around mid afternoon.. I just can't stay inside any longer. :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 320 Amount Saved: $116.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 21 Seconds: 11
