Sue, I remember you posted about that & I was so happy that you made it through. I suspect that I won't be doing in the bar, the same thing you & DH did on the balcony but I see the similarity. BFS, I had already thought about the not drinking too much angle & I will be sure that I don't do that. It is a big trigger. I found coming to work this morning not as bad as the last couple of days so maybe I'm adjusting to all the festivities & it won't be a problem. I know I won't smoke. Thanks, all! Unhooked, You're very dedicated to your quit... I'm sure you'll be fine! And the fact that you're planning for this now is a great sign! I really hope you have an awesome time and don't worry too much about something that is still several days off! The one thing I will recommend is that, no matter what happens, you don't drink too much! That seems to lead to more slips and/or relapses than any other trigger, I think, because alcohol lowers your inhibitions. But I still think that you should go and have a wonderful time! You deserve a fun day/night out as a reward for all of your hard work! Crave the Quit! p.s. You know what they say, the wisest people were the stupidest children/young adults because in order to be wise, you have to learn from your mistakes... and the more mistakes you make, the more you have to learn. I don't think I'm any wiser than anybody else on these boards... I've just made a lot of mistakes and have learned from them. But thank you for the compliment. Unhooked, I had the same anxiety over and over. DH was of the opinion to handle these things head on, he had me in a smoky oyster bar full of smokers on day 8 I think. I was almost in tears with frustration at him. Those were some bad days with the two of us quitting. Anyway, we were at the beach and before we even got there I was apprehensive about the balcony. we would always go out there to watch the sunrise, the ocean, smoke, talk, drink etc....well we found other stuff to do :) You will too, no matter what event you are approaching as a non-smoker, I just wanted to tell you I understand and once you do it, you will be so thrilled with yourself. Have a blast! bring some licorice, mints, etc.... Unhooked, We have a summer home in PA and I used to love sitting on my deck and watching the deer. This year I fretted for months as to how I was going to last for a 90 minute ride and how I could go there and not smoke. My husband doesn't smoke but everyone up there does. The first morning was real hard then I picked up a magazine and found a crossword puzzle in it and before you knew it I was enjoying my deck without a smoke. It did take self talk in the beginning but I think sometimes predicting our craves helps us better prepare for them. Have I good time at the stampede :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 106 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,120 Amount Saved: $689.00 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 23 Mins: 34 Seconds: 28

It's good that you see that crave ahead of time, before you're there. I saw this post one time that i'll never forget. A woman had been quit over a year, and she went out to dinner with her griend. She and said friend had always smoked together and they hadn't been out to dinner since she had quit. Friend lit up, and she reached over, grabbed the cig, and took a puff before she even knew what she was doing, and that was it. She was a smoker again. This way you can make a plan. Thanks, everyone. BFS, that is exactly what I'm afraid of: that it's almost a week away & I'm already thinking about it. I'm not thinking about DOING it but my fear is that the junky will slip into one of those thoughts with that, "You can have just one. You haven't been at the stampede in years, it's a special occasion. You know what they say - it's not cheating if it's stampede...blah blah blah" . It gets pretty complicated if I actually think about all the things that are tied up in this. So this is what I will do: I will think about all that complication as it comes up instead of making it into a joke & then I will deal with whatever feelings that brings up. I will take BFS' advice & if at any point on Tuesday or even before then, I start thinking I can have one I will either not go or leave, depending on where I am. I will have a great time on Tuesday night whether I go to that particular place or not & I will not smoke. BFS, do you know how silly I sometimes feel when I look at your age & look at mine & see how wise you are? Thanks again, everybody. There is no way I would still be quit without all of you. xxxxxxxooooooooo My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 53 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,060 Amount Saved: $583.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 7 Mins: 18 Seconds: 53

Unhooked, There's nothing crazy or weird about that at all! Also, be VERY careful when you go to the stampede next week! Before I quit smoking, my roommate at the time and I bought tickets to a concert. Well, the concert was about 2 months after I'd quit smoking, and for DAYS before, all I could think about was how I was going to make it through this particular rock concert smoke free. They give out 3 free packs of cigarettes to anybody who wants them there, and I knew it'd be hard to resist, but I figured I was strong enough in my quit that it'd be OK. Well, on my 3 hour drive to the concert, I'd decided that I would go get the cigarettes and give all of them to my then former roommate who still smoked. Well, during the drive, it turned from giving her all three packs to only giving her 2 packs and keeping one for myself. Well, that's exactly what happened and I ended up smoking 2 puffs of a cigarette (that tasted absolutely nasty and made me sick) and then put it out and gave the rest of the pack to her. But the fact is that the temptation was there for SO long that it slowly crept into my brain and somehow turned from a VERY bad idea into a VERY good idea! DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!! Keep yourself away from any temptation if possible! I know how those difficult situations can be! And if you're thinking, before you even get there, that "maybe one won't hurt," then turn your car around and go home. It's not worth it! But if you're still wanting to tackle this, then go and have a great time! I'm sure the stampede will be a blast! Crave the Quit! Yes, you're right, Bear. Even though it was a long time ago, I always had a good time there & smoked up a storm. I love the bull riding but I don't understand why anyone would want to do it either. There's an old joke about that, I can't remember it but it has something to do with lost marbles!
