Sam, You are doing great just keep it going. Morning was tough for me I just drank coffee and chain smoked before getting ready for work. I just started getting up dressed and out the door. Then coming in from work that was another time I would sit at the computer and smoke 3 or 4 so now it is outside to my yard. My gardens have never been so weed free but it works. You just keep haning in there. I hear your determination and you seem to have a list of coping skills. Deep breaths and self talk help a lot too. :)

Nonic, I am so enjoying kicking the nicodemon to the curb! In fact when I get over the major cravings/triggers I'm so damn proud of myself.. I DID IT ! and yes, I do the WOOOO HOOO ! ! ! ! (outloud and 'high five' the air..LOL !) I know Casey, mixin' it up, routine wise has made a considerable difference. I've changed a lot of things, not too drastically, but enough so that it's become somewhat of an alternative distraction. :) Well Mercy, that's exactly what I love to do re the brisk walks. Has helped immensely. Walking off the crave, anxieties, stresses.. For me the walks come easily because I did that before the quit so I don't see it as a 'chore', but rather a very relaxing time just for me and when it's done I have a much clearer mind and at the same time it's great for the cardiovascular system ! Ex ! YES we will get there ! Just need to take it slowly, moment by moment, day by day :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/23/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 120 Amount Saved: $43.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 53 Seconds: 7

Way to go Sam - you are doing so well!! I am also struggling with these two triggers - I think the morning one is harder for me than after dinner - I am working up to working out for the morning one (but haven't quite got there yet lol) Anyway...we'll get there, won't we? Yeah, oh and like Unhooked mentioned, we can always yell!!!!! Sam2007, look at you with 5 days already! It's awesome the way you're working on identifting your triggers & developing strategies for each of them. That's the way you'll beat this thing!! Might I also suggest ( yes, everyone reading, I'm going to say it again),shout WOOHOO!!. You can't feel bad, you just can't. WOOHOO!! ps: oops forgot to say. After dinner was a little tough too. I ate slower..and made it fancier. Like nicier plates and stuff. I finihsed with smart one deserts....or a new kind of tea. Infact right now I am sipping on cocoa spice tea!! mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 158 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,160 Amount Saved: $706.26 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 19 Mins: 57 Seconds: 40

Sam, Your in the beginning and it will get easier. These two times may remain your hardest times of the day...(for now). My two hard times were the morning also...and after I got out of work. I thought after dinner would have been the hardest. ..but..... after work was harder for me. You need to replace them with another PERMENANT RITUAL) This is what I did. In the morning I still made my cup of coffee and had some toast or english muffin and I read my daily devotional. I never had toast or english muffin in the morning as I was tooooo busy smoking. When I got home from work I use to smoke three in a row. So... I replaced it with a brish walk.....rain or shine. I got home.....ripped off my clothes...put my sweats on and took a brish walk in the woods with my dog. It boosted my endorphines emensly and helped with weight gain. It made my dog mighty happy too. :) Now.. you pick your two things you will do. I didn't waver. It became my new habit for awhile. I still do both things because I got to enjoy it. Hope this helps. Sam2007 Good stuff...Figuring out the triggers is key...Once you become aware of the behavior, it will be easier to create a defense. Keep going, you are doing very well...I think your going to like kicking this old addiction to the curb... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 185 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,550 Amount Saved: $1,295.00 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 21 Mins: 3 Seconds: 31

As I go along I've been learning very quickly what my triggers are - As soon as I wake up in the morning, doing that 'ritual' thing.. have breakfast and then light up. Right after dinner.. yet another 'ritual' thing,,, light up. These are the two really bad times for me. I have other little triggers that I simply ignore the small cravings, but with the above two they come hard and strong ! I'm now very well prepared for these two triggers.. I have a whole arsenal of coping methods in place : - go do chores.. dishes, vacuum, dust, dishes - go out for a brisk walk - throw in a dvd - grab a handful of carrots, celery sticks - play music and dance around like a fool .. LOL ! - call a friend (and don't talk about not smoking) - come here, read, respond, read more ! I have to say though.. the early morning and then after dinner are very very tough on me and I feel totally exhausted after taking care of them.. BUT I'm proud of myself with the way I've been able to recognize and then deal !
