Kathleen, I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner. I know this sounds so reduntant..but what you are feeling is normal and part of the process. Remember.... no one said it was going to be a picnic. Remember how you didn't care. Remember that attitude of how I'm going to do it no matter what. These thoughts just side track you. Your down and depressed feelings is very normal too. Your brain has shut down endorphine receptors all those years you smoked. They will get turned on again.....but it doesn't happen immediately. The brain has to remember how to activate them again. It's trying to remember. Give your poor brain a chance. Before you do something you may feel bad about...take a little time and go to your computer and do some research on smoking. Just type in health issues from smoking. Let us know how you are doing. and rembember...IT ALWAYS PASSES. thinking of you mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 159 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,180 Amount Saved: $710.73 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 23 Mins: 19 Seconds: 25

It will taste horrible, you will feel horrible, and you'll be beating yourself up for letting yourself and your family down. It is soooooooo not worth it. So you are having a bad day. Tomorrow is a new day. Smoking will make it worse, not better. It's temporary, it will pass. Hugs to you Stay with us and let us know you how you're doing :) Audrey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 164 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,280 Amount Saved: $459.20 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 0 Mins: 23 Seconds: 10

Kathleen, you don't REALLY want to smoke, you know you don't. You will feel awful if you do & not just physically. You will be mad at yourself, & feel that you have let yourself down. And do you really want to go throught the first part of ANOTHER quit??? It's the junkie that lives in your head putting those thoughts there. I don't know everything that might be going on with you but by your stats, could you possibly have let your guard down, maybe not kept your triggers & strategies front & centre? The junkie doesn't need a very big space to wiggle into. Try to visualize doing something else after work, a reward for getting through a rough day. Maybe a book or music or something that smells good. Or do something nice for yourself, a long walk, a candlelit soak in the tub, whatever makes you feel pampered. I have started to gain weight now too & I hate it but as someone else posted today, "I can lose weight, I can't lose emphysema". I'm so glad you posted Kathleen, & will be even gladder when you come back & say you didn't slip. You will feel so strong & proud. You're doing this hard thing, Kathleen, you can keep doing it for today. We're all pulling for you. Kathleen, We encourage you to visit the avoiding relapse and slipping forums. You'll quickly find that those who have slipped have regretted it and did not enjoy that cigarette they longed for. We also encourage you to tour the Hall of Fame and get a glimpse of what kind of happiness awaits if your stick with it. Please know that the weight gain and mood swings are temporary and there is much you can do to counter them: * Journalling: give your emotions an outlet * Physical activity: will help lift your mood and keep your waistline in check * Rewards: will help lift you mood * Sleep: making sure you get enough sleep is vital as it greatly affects your mood and metabolism. Keep persevering! This rough patch will pass and you'll find a new state of happiness you've never known: freedom! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hi everyone...I know I haven't checked in for a long time now, sorry! But I really need to vent today! I am feeling extremely depressed today! I don't know what it is. I keep blaming it on the ciggs and I want to smoke so bad! I have been soooo terrible to my husband lately and he's had it with me! I keep wishing for 5pm, so I can get out of work. I keep having these thoughts of going to buy a pack of smokes after work and heading to a "smoking" bar and sit there and smoke till my hearts content! I know my stats are great, but now I am starting to put weight on! I feel miserable! I feel if I start smoking again, that I would be so much happier, but then I know I put the ones that love me down. Sorry I have ranted and raved, but I really don't know what to do. I just want to be happy again and I REALLY WANT TO SMOKE!
