If anyone needs information on addiction, I have posted lots of topics on the technical aspects of chemicals and what smoking is all about. If you want me to bump them please let me know and I will take the time to bump them all. Infact... if I have time later (as I am on vacation :) ) I will find them. I know that I still have mammoth cravings. I know that I have psychological stuff I'm dealing with. I know that have patterns that are in the process of being re-routed. I know that I need constant support. And I know that I need multiple tools to deal with an array of situations. I know that I'm an addict. The addiction reminds me of that all day every day right now. What I need reminding of is that it is possible to beat it and that I am doing great and that I rule my own body and that I love me enough to endure all of this. And this site is one of the main sources of positivity in my quit. --Shakes My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,100 Amount Saved: $495.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 22 Mins: 23 Seconds: 15

I think that the reason there aren't any threads specifically dedicated to addiction is because the topic of addiction is present in virtually every thread on this site! Addiction is at the heart of the reason that we are all here! If nicotine wasn't one of the strongest addictions there is, then there'd be no reason for a support group like this for all of us to help each other quit. The fact is that nicotine is in fact one of the strongest addictions you can have, and therefore, is one of the toughest to beat. BUT, as we are all proving here, it is definitely possible. However, I do not think that one should go into a quit lightly. Preparation is needed in order to remain smoke free. If you didn't prepare for your quit, but are already quit, it's not too late! I definitely think that having a plan for dealing with cravings is one of the best ways to prevent slips and relapses. Since this can be such a tough addiction to beat, we need to make sure we pull out all the stops in order to ensure success! Crave the Quit! I think besides the addiction part, it is also part of our routine. I know that I would get out of bed and smoke. Clean the house, and smoke. Put away the groceries, then smoke. And lets not forget eat a meal, and smoke. Once I changed up my "routine" I know that I can do anything without a puff afterwards. And it feels great! Oh, I think addiction is what's behind all of this smoking business. I see a lot of people posting "junkie thinking" or stuff like that, so I do think it has been brought up. I think about a routine Bob Newhart did years and years ago called Introducing Tobacco To the World, where Sir Walter Raleigh is calling his boss at the East India Trading Company to tell him about tobacco. It is just sooooo funny and one of the lines is "Well, Walt, it seems to me a man could get that same effect by standing in front of his fireplace" If it were the actual smoking that brought us here, we'd be just as happy sticking our heads in the fireplace and taking a deep breath. But of course we don't do that. But it isn't the smoking it's the nicotine we want. I have to work today so I won,t be around till later in the day. I have seen very little discussion on the thing that got us all here I call it the A ( addiction ) word it,s possible I missed the discussion or maybe it,s been beaten to death either way is it time to resurrect this topic to give ourselves better understanding of what were really dealing with. :quest: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 71 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,278 Amount Saved: $710.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 5 Mins: 42 Seconds: 8
