Unstanding Cravings

Bravo Mercy and Well Said You get an A+. That in my opinion is what its all about " cravings by association" The mind is such a beautiful thing it remembers all the pleasures associated with smoking but has forgotten about the pain associated with smoking. The coughing, wheezing, foul smell of our breath and clothing, the loss of our sense of smell and taste, that beautiful groggy feeling we have in the morning before we get our first smoke into us ?? So if I maybe so bold all the good things we remember about smoking are just that memorys. They are things from the past and a dead thing that can never be duplicated and the truth is that this is our new reality being SMOKE FREE and its a much nicer place to be !!! :) Thanks for you contributions everybody But I owe I owe so it,s of to work I go have a pleasant smoke free day. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 58 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,044 Amount Saved: $580.00 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 6 Mins: 35 Seconds: 57

Bear..... It's sort of like...... popcorn at the movies icecream at the boardwalk...and hotdogs at the ballpark It's an association game. We "remember" the accesories to these events. It's really about the movie...the walk and the baseball game. The more ingrained smoking was to the events in life (no matter how small) the harder and longer it takes to dissasociate. Bear, VERY few things make me "crave" nowadays. In fact, I can't remember the last time I had an actual craving. All I get now is the occasional smoking thought where I think "I'd like a cigarette right now" and then it's gone as quick as it came and it doesn't come back for days, weeks or months. But I can tell you that the most difficult situation for me to deal with smoke free was drinking with smokers. I don't have any problems anymore, but as recently as December or January, I was still struggling with this. In fact, I remember posting on here that this trigger was so hard for me that I didn't want to go out with my friends anymore because I was MISERABLE every time that I did! Perhaps part of the reason I struggled so much was that from June 17, 2005 until July 2006, I'd almost completely quit drinking, with very few exceptions. So, I hadn't really conquered this trigger yet. Then, when I started going out a lot in July of 2006 and for several months after that, I really struggled hard with staying quit while drinking; especially when drinking with smokers. Smoking and drinking went so well together for me that it was hard to disassociate those two things. And, 2 out of my 3 slips were while drinking, so that made it even harder. I'm proud to say that now, I can go out drinking with smokers and non-smokers alike without any hint of a craving or smoking thought. In fact, the idea of smoking doesn't even cross my mind! It took a while to get there, but once I did, that trigger faded completely! So have no doubt that whatever your worst trigger is, with time, it will go away too! Crave the Quit! I'm at 110 days. When do I get a day without craves or something that can be called memories? A week ago, they started again, so bad that it drove me right back to the gum. I drove through a box so far this week. I was weaned down really far too! I came very close to being free. Then the cravings started all over again. What I don't understand is when they hit, it's like all over again. This morning's was just like the first one 109 days ago. I keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Bear, Everyone of us will have a different opinion on this subject I'm sure. I don't think I've had more than one single real "craving" and that was triggered by bad news on the third day of my quit. Just being alive is a trigger for me, since I have no adult memories of not being a smoker. Yes, I've had many, many thoughts of smoking, but every day they become fewer and just recently I've had an occasional whole day with no smoking thoughts at all. When I do think of smoking I refuse to dwell on it, I just acknowledge it and wave it away because I don't smoke any more and smoking is not an option for me. N.O.P.E. I think gaining knowledge of this addiction and being positive have been the keys to making this final quit as easy as it could be for me. :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 109 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,360 Amount Saved: $1,526.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 22 Mins: 11 Seconds: 53

You don't crave - really. You just have a memory. Sometimes for a brief moment it actually seems like an attractive memory, or a harmless one. Like those soda pop commercials about "I wish I had the hair I had in high school". Not really if you had the flock of seagulls haircut. So you don't smoke and you move on to the next thing. I have some questions about cravings.I would like to hear from people who are well into their quit 120 + days. At this stage the nicotene has left your body and memory of the buzz that you got from smoking has faded as well ?? So my question is what is it you crave and what triggers these cravings. :quest: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,026 Amount Saved: $570.00 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 2 Mins: 11 Seconds: 57
