Dealing with Tension and Anxiety How?

17 years ago 0 19 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hey tryagain, Please, try to hang in there!! I know how it is trying this "cold turkey" because I am doing it. And like you, it started out ok, then "wham" it has hit me! But I keep trying to hang on. Hey, like you I need some encouragement too. Let's try to help each other! I'm praying for us both. Pleas take care and remember, we are all here for the "same" reason............we can't do this alone! :)Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 757 Amount Saved: $200 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 2 Mins: 15 Seconds: 30

tryagain, I really think that with all you are describing about your physical and emotional pain it would serve you in your best interest to seek out medical attention. All I can say is that if I was feeling the way you are describing it I would be at the doctor's office yesterday. Please do take care and do what the common sense thing for yourself. Do you really think that smoking will help? If the coughing was bad before, it sure won't be better if you smoke. What does your doctor say? There must be something out there that can help. Sounds like the cigarettes were masking another problem. I would be at my Doctors door, asking for further tests. I guess I am not much help here Tryagain, but I know it in my heart, the cigarettes will NOT help one bit. Stay Strong! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 734 Amount Saved: $305.95 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 13 Mins: 13 Seconds: 13

This craving and withdrawal has got to stop and pretty soon. The cure is getting as bad as the disease. I coughed really really bad, which is no worse than being in the kind of pain anxiety and tension is now. One thing leads to another and another, each one piling on making things worse. My muscles get so tensed up, they'll spasm, I end up with never impingement in my neck which makes my hands numb or some massive cramps. I have chewed enough gum to put lesions on the inside of my mouth. To deal with this, I've been taking aspirin. Over the course of a few days I forget just how much and how often. I ended up with a truly huge nosebleed last night. Frightening enough to call paramedics. Enough to make me dizzy. It will cost enough to take all the money I haven't or won't spend on cigarettes for the next several months. I cannot take anti anxiety medication. It makes me suicidal. I have tried all the deep breathing, mental relaxation, imaging in the world. Even stuff that I did a month ago no longer works for me. There is only one thing I need and that is for the cravings and withdrawals to stop or at least become manageable. Right now, I've stopped the aspirin and started taking my husband's codeine. I can't do that for a long period of time. That's not the kind of medication that someone can stay on for long. Realistically, how long am I looking at here. I've got 66 days in, it did get better for quite a few days and I've had some GREAT days, but it seems worse now, has been really bad for over a week. Realistically, how much longer will this last, because honestly, I can't hang on for much longer. I'm ready to take my chances with the coughing.

Tutti! Bless you for posting that. Yes. I have had the heart fluttering thing for years and years! That's one thing I have taken to the doctor, in fact to emergency rooms! No one was ever able to find a cause. It was just something that happened and went away. Of course! It went away after I had not had a cig for awhile. Last night, I felt so bad about the nosebleeds I checked my blood pressure which has always been very, very low, as a smoker it was very low. It is now elevated - for me, but smack dab in the middle of normal. I stopped the aspirin and the bleeding has also stopped so I'm on the right track there. Tutti, God is going to bless you for posting that. I never saw a connection before. Now, I have GOT to be determined. I went throught that for years, decades knowing something was wrong but not what. It was cigarettes the whole time. You're right. I have not had a flutter since I quit. I guess NRT doesn't give you the flutters. I woke up with my usual morning hard hitting in your face crave, and saw this the first thing. I am a happy and determined quitter. No matter how hard and miserable it gets.

Try, Keep saying everything you need to say out loud. Keep talking to us because I know it really does help. Oh man, have you ever coughed so hard that you gagged? That's humiliating!! I did that one time and that was enough. I also got to where I was coughing at night in my sleep....well, waking myself up from a good sleep. I get hotter when I go to sleep and once I got hot, I'd start to cough. That stopped for me the very day I quit. I mean on Day 1 I slept through the night and didn't cough one time. Your lungs will improve. I know that. Have you noticed this one.....My heart was doing this fluttering thing. Sort of like it would skip beats or stop all together. That stopped right away too. Did you have the heart fluttering thing? You just keep posting and thinking about those positive things. Okay? I wish we could take a stroll together and just talk. I'm so proud of you for hanging in there the way you are. I know the anxiety is a tough one...real tough. You know, I think we should look at the sister site on panic. Have you looked on that site yet? They talk about depression and anxiety too. You can ask questions and post just like you do here. We both may find that really helpful. I'm really feeling a lot better today. As I was posting here in another thread I mentioned how embarassing it was to smoke and cough so bad that it would bring me to my knees. I can stand just about anything, I'm a very strong person, but I will NOT go through that humiliation again and I needed to hear myself say it. Today is a lot more positive.

Hi TryAgain, I may be out of line here by saying this but you sound down right depressed. I mean, you seem to have the world on your shoulders.....things that aren't coming from your Quit. I can't help but think that because in your last post you said, "I don't know what I will do WHEN I can't hold on any longer. I don't know what options will be open to me." It sounds like you expect NOT to be able to hang on any longer. What's that all about? You CAN do this but you have to think more positive than you are right now. You have to stop expecting the worst. Tell us how we can help. Tell us what is going on that has you so down in the dumps, other than the cravings. We really do want to help you. Stay Strong with Me Now!! SO set your focus on that. "I am breathing better each and every hour of every day" You have to focus on the positive. Smoking is not an option anymore, because you know it will kill you, so what is the next option - Hey breathing is! Focus on how much better it feels to take a deep breath every morning. When I go to bed at night, it is a pleasure to lie down and hear my breathing in and out without wheezing! You will start to notice a whole raft of wonderful differences in your health. But the ticket is - you have to pay attention to it! Smoking is not an option, NOPE! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 761 Amount Saved: $316.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 15 Seconds: 48
