Hi Lainey You did a fantastic job of keeping the quit. Good job to you, now reward yourself for that. I feel the same way when I am with friends or family that smoke. Wishing a little bit I could be doing it too as I used to enjoy it. But I always come back to the fact that I breath better now and I feel better now. Those are only feelings and you can change them if you want to. I saw someone recently that was new to smoking and as I watched them I thought how ridiculous that looked, not really knowing how to hold the cig and smoke coming out their nose and I felt good that I had quit. Did I look that ridiculous too! Yeah I probably did! I was never a really a graceful person to begin with. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 67 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,684 Amount Saved: $335 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 3 Mins: 12 Seconds: 58

Great Job! You passed the test and didn't even have to study for it! Well, I guess, in reality, you've been studying for 62 days.... and.....YOU DID IT!!!!!! :) Fantastic job! Danielle brings up a good point. I have noticed that after I have been around smokers, I crave more and have a bit of a battle with the demon. Might be that second-hand snort you're receiving..... Lainey, Your sadness may also be due to the fact you were exposed to traces of nicotine present in second hand smoke. Hang in there. This will pass and do be sure to reward yourself for passing this test! Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Hey Lookingglass! New awareness! Yes, you got that right! I seem to be so much more aware of the mental changes going on with this process. I think I have done more self analysis in the past couple of months than in my whole life. LOL, That could be good or bad!!! The mourning feeling.... It got me thinking, How many emotions are we finally feeling rather than covering up with smoke? The last time that I had started smoking again, (last fall), I had said to my sisters. 'Smoking really does make you high", They were surprised even though some of them had smoked for 30 some years before they quit. I didn't notice it day to day as an old smoker, but when I hadn't smoked for a along time and went back, I really noticed that high for the first day or so and then it became unnoticeable. It surprised me that my sisters didn't notice that. So today, after all this thought about grieving. I was thinking, maybe we are mourning that effect that the drug gave us, that 'high'. And of course, nicotine being such a powerful drug, how much more it has affected me, than I ever had a clue! I realize, its part of the whole process, but it is so interesting, how remarkable this process is, and how badly we screwed up our lives and our brains by smoking all those years! I also realize how wonderful it is feeling these "AHAAA moments", now, when the lite bulb comes on and you go "Wow, how blind and dumb was I all those years!" It feels really good to know, that we are done with it, and we won't have to ever go back there. That we are on the road of this new life, and there may be the odd potholes, but it's getting smoother every day! :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 62 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,566 Amount Saved: $654.1 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 13 Mins: 29 Seconds: 49

Good going Lainey. I also passed a test this weekend. I survived the first visit and overnight stay by my parents since they went to Fla for the season without a crave or breakdown of any sort! I was really concerned and it went very well. I think since quitting I've become more aware of things around me and I certainly picked up on negative energy, but I was able to step back and tune it out instead of internalizing it and being self-destructive! I hope our experiences help others. Good for you, Lainey! I'm very proud of you! :) And I understand about the mourning, even now. I've experienced that recently, myself... and I won't be surprised if that sense of grief surfaces once in a while in the future. To tell you the truth, I won't be too surprised at any emotional response to quitting. Lainey, you and I were smokers for many, many years. To change that... goes very deep into our identities. There's some trauma attached to quitting... not just to the body, but to the psyche. But if it takes time, if it takes some grief and sadness.... whatever it takes... we'll be so glad that we did this. Something is passing away, and that something was killing us. Now a new awareness of ourselves is displacing that. We are coming to see ourselves as free rather than as slaves... and you would think that would be a wonderful, happy realization. But we were slaves for a long time. It'll come. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,538 Amount Saved: $564.25 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 0 Mins: 40 Seconds: 59
