4 1/2 days to go

17 years ago 0 106 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Kevin, Just checking back in to let you know I'm now 13+ hours smoke free and going to bed so I should have my first day made!!! Yahoo!! You had been telling me about Bach's Rescue Remedy on the IM when I had to go. I was getting ready to tell you I am on a prescription medication called Chantix (Champix in Europe, I believe). You may want to read up on it and then possibly see your doctor. I think it is really helping me transition to being a non-smoker. See the April Quitters thread under (see post below) for more about my personal experience. I've done a lot of research and reading about it and a lot of successful quitters have taken it and are reporting positively. Hoping you'll be able to join the April quitters, for your sake. Kevin, I apologize for the abrupt end to our IM conversation. I have dial up and a telephone call came through that I had to take. I think you've got the mindset it takes to beat this monster addiction. Let's do it this time. I'm going to allow myself the last cigarette I have and then it's off to work and a bright new future as a recovering smoker. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your support, it means a lot. Mike

Hello JDK Just logged on now. Been keeping busy all day and keeping computer time till I hit my 'worst' time of day when I used to smoke my head off to stave off hunger and alleviate boredom. Sorry you had a bit of a relapse but I'm sure you'll try again. At the risk of sounding pedantic it's orange CORDIAL and SODA. Small thing but it is lighter and cheaper and feels less like a health drink. I mean, you are going to be doing enough for your health by not smoking..... Good luck. Hi Kevin, Whew, just read through your whole thread. I don't often do this, but it's time for some tough love...I think you can take it. If not I do apologize and do not intend this to be mean or hurtful, I just think you need to hear the truth that some others might see. Wow, you've really got a GODZILLA SIZED junkie...just like mine is/was too. Read back through your posts and you will see your ADDICTION MONSTER has you firmly in hand and is spewing all kinds of junkie talk and pulling all the best tricks it's got to keep you smoking. You're falling for it hook, line and sinker just like I did for so many years. So here's my advice. 1) RUN, don't walk, RUN as fast as you can to the nearest bookstore and get The Easyway to Quit Smoking by Allan Carr and any other book on ADDICTIONS that you can find. Throw in a few practical positive self help books as well because I can see you are wanting to stop smoking and be positive about it. 2) Go home and lock yourself away and read. 3) When you've had your ahhaaa, I get it now, I'm an addict moment, come back here and post your new knowledge. We will be here waiting for you. You will beat this addiction because you are strong. Hi freemom, thanks for your post. Its cheered me up no end. Its just a case of chipping away at those triggers one by one I think. Someone once said 'Theres never a good time to quit, but there is always a great time'. Once this pack runs out I am back on the horse. Kind Regards Kev p.s. Kevin - You had a slip-up. That doesn't mean you can't give it another try. Think about how you could change your morning routine around to try to conquer that trigger. If you smoke first thing, then take a shower first, if you shower first than try having breakfast first (include milk & fruit - I read here that supposedly dairy products, fruits & veggies make cigs taste worse!). Take a different route to work, etc... At the minimum, try delaying that morning cig a bit, so maybe you can weaken that trigger. Good luck and remember we're here when you're ready to jump back on board. Apologies for the positivity gap in my last post. I'm normally at my lowest straight after yet another failed quit. Truth is I am never going to give up quitting. Its a decision thats not going to change for the rest of my life. Which of course means that you're going to have me posting here for the rest of my life too :) By the end of it all you'll each of my goldfish's names, my favourite colour etc :D So hows everyone doing this afternoon? Mike12000, hope you're doing ok. I managed to quit for 5 days straight before, and I remember how relaxed I was, how great it felt. Thats the place I want to be. And I shall continue working on that. Kind Regards Kev p.s. does anyone actually use SSC IM other than phil? I've been staring at 20 grey heads and one pink head all week! :D :D :D My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hi Martha & Joyce, Many thanks for your posts! Well I did in fact survive the whole evening. After the meal, I took a stroll and didn't think about smoking... ..This morning however is a whole different story. By 0730h I was at local shop along with the paperboys getting 40 royals and two more lighters. The shop assistant must think I lose my lighters left right and centre. I knew the mornings was the biggest trigger, second only to pubs. Unfortunately, though I can avoid pubs, I cannot avoid mornings. Even with the mountain of mantras, stop smoking cue cards etc, I was too weak and caved to the immense craving. I'm not confident I will ever be able to give up. However, on the positive side of things. Just being here added hours on quit tally. I've got to come to decision now as to whether to try quitting again or just to forget about it. Either way, I will always be on here reading and reading and offering encouragement. I may even get around to knowing my password off by heart. Thanks again. Kind Regards Kevin My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0
