Lookingglass, This is quite common among quitters. Your body is used to getting a fix at this time. You can help it get used to not receiving it anymore by using substitutions. Lookingglass, You are absolutely right...face the trigger head on...and it loses it's power. My first worst one...(crave) was the morning...1st cig...but realized it could not happen...if I were going to make it through the day...so I faced...blew it away...literally by breathing deep breaths. The next one was the after dinner one...faced it the same way... Then the killer one I had a hard time understanding was the one I would get for no reason when I walked past the dining room table...Yep... I discovered this area was where my husband and I had some serious discussions... and it was flushing up anxiety...everytime I walked past it...so....I made a 3X5 index card and wrote in Big Capital Red Letters....N.O.P.E. and taped it on the wall over the table area... I never have a crave there at all...even when...our conversations get intense... but...understand...I have really done some soul seaarching to unravel and discover what these emotions are and bring them to the front page of my conscious thought. auntdeb :) Deep breaths...and blow hard.... For some newly recovering ex-smokers/non-smokers, maybe all craves are the same... but not for me. I have some cravings that are stronger than others, and the worst crave of the day for me seems to be the one (or more) shortly after I leave work. I may be on the way home, or it may not hit me until I get home... but lately, it's been there every day around that time. It doesn't floor me. I don't really have to battle with it, but it's the one that I find most annoying. And by 7:00 or so (in the evening), I'm just fine again. The cravings come, but they're a lot weaker. If you would have asked me before I quit, which crave would have bothered me the most, I would have guessed that it would be the one right after getting out of bed. But nope! That one doesn't bother me much. It's that after work one that tries my peace-of-mind a little. Anyone else have a predominant crave that seems to come regularily every day? Anyway, the only reason I mention it is because it does me good to identify the ways in which my addiction 'speaks to me'. It seems that once I do that... it loses steam. looking- I find mine to be the worst in the afternoon as well. But, another thing that triggers me, yet helps me is this site. I like reading people's success when they have made it months, if not years. It really bothers me when people who have not quit yet post on how to deal with cravings when they haven't dealt with it yet. Or I get really discouraged when I read how someone slipped after months of a quit. On the other hand, I like reading about people who have made it 2 years, etc-that is what gives me hope. I have told no one that I have quit, I just simply say I am not smoking. I am not confident enough to say I have quit for good, I take 1 day at a time. But, for some reason, everyday, in the afternoon, I REALLY want a cigarette-doesn't fail. The only good thing is I hvaen't given in.
