Hi Rachel, Welcome, welcome, welcome!! Congratulations on making one of the most important decisions of your life. This is a great support group and we're here for you at all times. Someone WILL come along to help you with the patch question. I couldn't use them or anything else for that matter because I'm diabetic. I had to go cold turkey as well. But lots of folks here have used them and they will get back with you. Girl, you have LOTS of friends right here. That's a promise. This site is full of good people who stand by each other through thick and thin. You CAN do this and I'm so proud of you for deciding to be a NON SMOKER. Start thinking of yourself that way, okay. Drink lots and lots of water. It really helps to flush you system and helps with cravings. LOTS OF WATER. HA HA Have gum and/or hard candy on hand too and anything else for that hand to mouth thing. Read a lot here on the site and the tools over to the left, they really help out so much. Stay close to us, keep us posted, and STAY STRONG. Hi Rachel and welcome ! Glad for you and your decision to quit. I hope the patch works well for you, many here have used it with success. I didn't have success with the patch, it kept me awake and made me too nervous...but I think it was more my uncertainty of quitting than the product. I made my mind up to quit this time and I am using Chantix. It has been like the magic pill for me. Please read, read, read....past and present posts...you will find tons of information on tips and tricks to control cravings and defeat this addiction. Learn and prepare yourself. you can do this...and we will help you. auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 68 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,425 Amount Saved: $323 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 10 Mins: 11 Seconds: 0

Rachel, Sorry I wasn't around in your time of need! BUT it sounds like you are making your way just fine! Stay strong and be very gentle on yourself these first few days. If you feel like hiding out under the covers and sleeping, allow yourself to do that. Your body is working triple time right now trying to figure out what in the hell is going on! And once it figures out what you are doing, your body will go into overdrive, trying to heal itself. Just go with the flow right now, ask your gf to be understanding and supportive. Take it easy, gal, and don't smoke! Rachel, I'm on IM, too love! I'll try to stay on as often as possible during the day. Grit your teeth and let the stubborn mule within to hang on in there today!!!! After today, I really think you'll feel better - the first three days are the worst, really. You're doing so well, not accepting others' ciggies - don't let them tempt you! Smokers are so jealous of those who can quit! Speak soon, I hope, Deli My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 223 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,350 Amount Saved: 669 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 18 Mins: 57 Seconds: 29

Hi Rachel, I use lozenges rather than patches so I can't advise you much there either. Though many of the manufacturers of NRT have their own websites with tips etc. The important thing isn't really what you use to help you wuit, it's tackling the quit itself. And the site has LOADS of useful ti[s on that. Drink water. Stay busy. The first few days are the hardest. Plan for what you're going to do with yourself to get through them and also, what your "reward" is going to be for each one you complete. remember to pat yourself on the back and do lots of positive self-talk. And welcome - it's wonderful, challenging, illuminating journey and you're on your way. Rachel, Sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to the patch. Please be kind to yourself in the days to come. Do anything and everything that may make you feel better. Keep close. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Rachel - Think of it this way...the cravings are worse and more frequent when you're a smoker than when you're a non-smoker! Hang in there!!!!
