Cravings that don't want to go away

Yeah okay, you are right at the end of hell and the beginning of heck weeks ;) Those craves are gonna be fairly constant at times. Do change up your routine if you can, keep a straw or mints or something with you at all times. Hang in here ALOT and push through it! Gosh, for 7 days you are doing great Freemom! :) All the best~ 2 My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 534 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,769 Amount Saved: $2670 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 2 Mins: 38 Seconds: 6

Hi freemon :) Rough crave days huh? Hang in there! Seeing your meter helps us determine what you need. Since I can't see it I'll say... In general, D&D. Distract and Delay. If you are like most of us, you have reinforced the smoke habit over a period of years and so~you will need to reinforce new non-smoking coping techniques (over and over and over) before they begin to become second nature. You are in control of your thoughts so keep trying new ways to 'distract' your mind until you find what works best for you. (For example: Learning how to do 'something new' is a good distraction, or just staying busy, changing routines, etc.) The good news is 'it will get better in time.' You MUST have faith that it will get better because there are days when you will get tired of the journey. However, if you will push through the lows, the highs will come. One day it will be smooth sailing. Stay strong! Actually, I know its embarrassing but could you post how you feel about the slip on the ship posting? I think we can all learn from it. And of course you are always welcome on the ship...we are allowed to tease you about gang planks and such though! It is our right as your shipmates! Seriously though.... I am hugging you right because it is ok as long as you don't do it again. A mistake is only a mistake as long as you learn from it and it sounds like some great lessons can be learned by all of us... Hang tough, girlie! Hi ya Freemomma! This is your shipmate talking! I am just a little bit ahead of you but if you read the posts from the very first I have commented about the conflict inside my head. Boy there are times I could sell ice cubes to the homeowner of an igloo! Since I have realized this is my alter ego trying to get me to throw in the towel I just grit my teath and do something/anything different. I have found the warmth of tea really does soothe me. I thought it was one of those "yeah like that is going to make a difference" things. It does help me! Also, and I know this concept gets beaten to death but here is another for sure truth in this quit quest. Attitude is 90% of the battle. I am trying to learn how to turn my attitude around on a dime. Its quite strange how when you practice it you really can do it. Give it a try. Tell yourself for the next 30 minutes you are going to be a happy camper about quiting. You will deal with the voices after that. Before you know it an hour has gone by and you are ok. Give it a try or are you just trying to get out of working on the Magic today???? freemom, Why not keep a journal and try and pinpoint what is causing this? This can help you prepare and combat those pesky craves :) Use your coping mechanisms and keep busy! If it takes longer to fade than keep cleaning and reward yourself with a hot bath before bed. Try an early bedtime and ease yourself into sleep :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
