Pat, Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things that a lot of us have ever done. I shared your anxiety in the quit knowing for years before it actually happened that I need to quit. Not for medical reasons. I'm one of the rare few that just simply got tired of smoking, wanted to improve my image, was tired of being a social outcast, and didn't want to smoke anymore. Was quitting easy? Not at all. I kicked, screamed, whined and cried through the first six months of my quit. I questioned my sanity many, many times. Often I questioned if the quit was really worth it or not. Now, over 18 months later I can honestly tell you that it was worth every single miserable moment it took. I am so much happier today than I have ever been in my life. I am free from the enslavement of smoking and it no longer haunts me. I love being a non-smoker. I never thought I could quit. Not in a million years. Getting started is the hardest part. We all put quitting off as long as we think possible. When I quit this time, I never really expected to make it. I was just willing to give it one more try. As you begin your smoke free journey, look to those around you to help get you through the difficult times. You CAN quit and it IS worth it.
