Anxiety

Anxiety attacks are no picnic. They can be very scary as well. Take some really deep breaths when the come on and be sure to talk to your doctor about this. Your anxiety isn't anything to play with. I have anxiety attacks and seriously feel I can't breathe when I have them (even though I can). It was part of the quit for me but still continues to this day. I get very anxeous and then it begins. There are medicines available that really help prevent these attacks. Talk to your doctor. HI Tutti, yes I'm following this very closely. I feel like I dont really have a problem compared to others. I certainly get the symptoms, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest, however I do not feel anxious. I do not understand. I do a bit of singing in a band I should surely get an anxious performing in front of a couple of hundred people, but I dont. I get these attacks while I'm driving, or watching t.v, or while walking down the street. I dont feel anxious but i get the symptoms. The doctor is sure this is part of my depression/anxiety condition. I'm not so sure. I'm confused. Hi Tutti, as you know I have been suffering from anxiety attacks, only I didn't know thats what they were. I thought I had damaged my lungs which affected my beathing. I'm pleased to learn that my lungs are fine but now these anxiety attacks are a real pain in the bum ! I don't understand them. I dont understand why I get them or what could possibly trigger them. I am hoping that my new medication will help relieve them. I will be following this thread closely, coz I am just confused. When I first quit smoking, I was having having trouble breathing - always hoping for that really big breath that would make me feel better. The frequency of this feeling has diminished, but it is still there. Every once in a while I'll get that fluttering in my chest, and realize, I am holding my breathe. That's when I know, this is anxiety, and immediately switch to deep breathing mode. While I concentrate on my breathe (and not my thoughts) I start to feel better. I am on the patch, and I am watching this closely, so that when I do stop the nicotine I can get help with this if needed. What I have been wondering is if non-smokers feel anxiety this way. Surely they have anxiety. Just wondering what it feels like for them, and if maybe what I am feeling is normal. Now that I'm on the cruise ship, I'm thinking there is a lot less anxious days ahead. Tutti, This is normal and many members have experienced this. Remember if it does persist to check with your doctor to rule out anything medical that may be masked by your smoking. Your body is healing and will go through many changes and symptoms. Please also take the time to look through our sister site at www.paniccenter.net. Take a look round and take the anxiety test to better assess the situation for you and your doctor. Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team
