Cutting back

Elisa - You are not discouraging....Post as often as you like. I would also recommend the book by Alan Carr "The Easy Way to Quit" When I quit, I could not imagine the rest of my life without cigarettes. In fact, I was sure that it was not possible. I just quit one day at a time. (I know many wouldn't agree with this approach, but I told myself that if it got too hard and I couldn't cope, I could smoke) However, each day....I did my best to just make it through that day. Somehow, those days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months and I'm looking forward to the months turning into a year. Don't think too far ahead. One day at a time. Elisa, Welcome to the SSC! If you're looking for a plan, you've come to the right place. Go into your glove compartment and start working through our online quit program. It is full of advice and will help you devise a plan and set a date. It will also provide you with additional advice on how to prepare for your quit. Now that you've cut back, look at when you're smoking, why and where. Work through the program and read through the forums. Come up with a list of coping strategies that may help you tackle cravings. Ex: gum, ice water, deep breathing, etc... Next step is to start practicing. Use these coping strategies to delay your next cigarette. This will give you a chance to discover which strategies are helpful and which are not. It will also help you build your confidence. Overcoming cravings and quitting is possible! Keep us posted on your preparations. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Elisa, I decided to quit in November 2005. So, I started on the patches, but still smoked in the evenings (but only 2 or 3 as opposed to my normal 30-40). By mid February 2006, the numbers of cigs smoked were increasing again. I realised that I had to quit for good, and haven't looked back since. However, I have to say that I believe that the 3 months of cutting down did help me a lot Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 327 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,831 Amount Saved: 2452.5 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 9 Mins: 46 Seconds: 1

Elisa, What will make your conviction stronger than knowing that you are going to end up draggin an oxygen tank around if you don't quit smoking??? It is time for you to think seriously about nicotine addiction. You are paying to destroy your lungs. Have you done the program on this website? Have you talked to your dr. about using nicotine replacement therapy? ie patches, gum, lozenges, OR about taking a stop smoking medication? It is time for you to jump in and devise your plan, set a quit date and do this thing. Having the 2 year old around may help with your quit...a great diversion. You could devote your full attention to the child; read, play games, draw, take naps (yeah) etc. Quitting is hard; but if it is going to save your quality of life in the future; possibly your life, period; don 't you believe that it is worth it? Make your plan, set your quit date, and jump in. We will be here for you.
