Wendi,, you cannot remain a prisoner in your own home right? And sure, there are people who may cave at 300, other's at 30, but sweetie there are so many that don't cave and if anyone does they get back up , dust themselves off and start all over again. PLUS, and this is the most important thing -- Every quit is very personal and very individual. You are you, not that other person who didn't make it. Be strong, don't let your mind trick you.. YOU are in control of this. Take baby steps if you have to and get out there .. It does get easier, but I'd hate to see you barracaded in your home ..go on..go outside..go to the store..buy gas! And if you get nervous then come here and post again! Dear Wendi, I stayed clear of all stores that carried cigarettes for close to a month.. and as for gas stations, well I don't have a car..but maybe your hubby can fill it for you or go to a full service station where an attendant does it for you? You're doing so well in your quit, guard your quit in every way possible ok? Hi Wendi, I just wanted to let you know that the cravings you are having now are different to a craving you will have further along on your quit journey. Yes, people who have quit for five months may have a thought about smoking, but it is not as dramatic or overpowering as what you may be feeling now. Just wanting to shine a little ray of light on the matter! ;) You're doing just fine, Deli My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 153 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,301 Amount Saved: 459 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 21 Mins: 48 Seconds: 55

Wendi Just take a look at a dirty ashtray then see what you think of those pretty little boxes! Boy can I relate. As a repeater it seemed like everytime I quit I would become more afraid to leave for fear that I would smoke. So far things have gone well. Just knowing your trigger may help. Try going to places that you can not smoke at. Then go to those other places with someone until you feel a little stronger. Just remember no one can make you smoke, only you can do that. It all takes time and you will find the right time. When you see those boxes, they are filled with posion, just waiting to take you out. See them for what they are. I wore a couple rubber bands for the first 2 1/2 weeks of this quit and each time a crave a trigger hit I would snap that rubber band. Believe me you change your thinking real fast after a couple snaps. LOL You take care. My husband started smoking again after 17 years. He was a diabetic and that was the worse thing he could have done. He suffered a stroke and died. He was a wonderful, smart man. He was only 56 yr. old. That nicodemon seems to never leave you and in very weak moments will move back in if we let him. We all now have so much more knowledge about the consequences of this addiction. I was 41 when I started (now 63) If I had known then what I know now I would have never started. Let's all try to beat this. Chin up everybody and lets keep this march going. Wendi, you are romanticizing the cigarettes ("those pretty little boxes"). You have created a self-imposed sentence of isolating yourself. Quitting smoking is not a prison sentence, it's a choice. You must make the choice, and not allow the choice to be the attraction of what you perceive to be "out there." I'm sorry if this sounds blunt, but hardly anyone that I know of has had the luxury of sequestering themselves from the real world. Instead of being afraid and of not trusting yourself, why not make the choice to not be a smoker? Once you make that choice, there is nothing to fear. Is the gas station the only place you have to go? How about going somewhere where they don't sell cigarettes? Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 748 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 20,963 Amount Saved: $2618 Life Gained: Days: 102 Hrs: 23 Mins: 40 Seconds: 13

Wendi, Some fantastic advise! Give your husband a little reward for being your rock and know that you are doing this :) If these places tempt you, go somewhere else and occupy your time with hobbies and chores, perhaps a little relaxation will help you too!
