Kathy, I think you and everyone are doing so great (me included). How outstanding for us to be going into the Christmas holidays and being able to actually SMELL christmas and enjoy all the festivities without the addiction. It just makes me smile to think about it! Kathy, Remember, we are both new quitters. I heard someone in here refer to the quit as a new born baby and to protect it as such. We can relate to how each other is feelings, the good, the bad and the ugly. It helps so much to be able to read both the good and the bad from others, it makes us not feel so alone in this fight. And never forget, we are fighting for our quit. Every crave and every trigger. We have to fight hard.... I'm not giving up without a fight. Are you with me! My short experience is I really had to work at distracting myself...and then distacting myself again....and then, distracting myself again. In my mind, I knew I was retraining my mind and body to do different things in place of smoking. I even found that a fun event at my child's school was a "trigger" to want one when I was in my car and driving home. It was then that I realized I had to be tough for every craving/trigger. I had to outsmart it and be crafty, and fight it in my head. Make sure you are rewarding yourself. I have had the best 4 days in a row and that has made my quit all worth it. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter, just hang in there. Hiya Kathy2356, Welcome and yes, those cravings are very hard. Have you tried deep breathing exercises? Breathing in through the nose...slowly, and out through the mouth..slowly. Also, I have found that closing my eyes while doing the deep breathing and feeling all the sensations inside of my body - through my nose, my chest or sometimes while breathing visualizing something special in my life. When the craves hit, get up and go for a walk outside and get some fresh air, or flip on the t.v. and watch something funny. Do you have a crave cart for yourself? Another thing is - hobbies? Do you have any which would keep your mind and your hands busy :) Distractions are key to your quit.. It's helped me immensely as well as other's here. Keeping busy at all times.. Lots of people here have very clean homes..especially closets! LOL! Keep strong dear one, the cravings will lessen.. be as patient as possible. And remember we are all here for you :) (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 613 Amount Saved: $270 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 8 Mins: 23 Seconds: 7

Breathing is most definitely the ticket, Kathy. By Day 10, the nicotine is gone; the cravings are all in your mind; show your mind how cool it is to fill your lungs with real air... it will respond positively, I promise! Suck the air all the way into your diaphram... that's reward enough and enough to drive those cravings right into oblivion, where they belong. Breathe, darlin', just breathe. And wait it out. They will pass and disappear, I promise. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,596 Amount Saved: $170.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 8 Seconds: 48

Hi Kathy! 10 days is wonderful, but I hear you when you say you fel like your best friend died. The only problem is, your best friend is killing you. And you are paying for it to do so! So breathe deep, expect good days and bad days, and prepare your crave coping skills ahead of time. I particularly like tootsie pops or blow pops and cinnamon gum, but everyone has their preference. Of course, chocolate is always a fav.... LOL Welcome, and congratulations for choosing freedom! Hi Kathy..yes, your best friend DID die, and then you found out that he/she wasn't your best friend at all. Cravings are a great time to vent. I would go outside and do what I call "the Mexican Hat Dance" ..kind of running on the spot with modified small jumping jacks. Worked for me! If you ever go by a hospital and see whitecoated doctors and scrub wearing nurses running on the spot..you know they're fighting the good fight too. Ice cold spring water drunk through a straw is a saviour! Find something that works to get over the crave and use it! Crave the quit! N.O.P.E. Not one puff ever! Hey Kathy, congrats on your quit. Like you I also am on wellbutrin. If you have only been on it for this short period and nicotine free it only gets better. When I started it took about 3-4 weeks before I started feeling better and having less and less cravings. Fight through the feelings and now and look forward to a better tomorrow and days to come.
