Hi Jada! Welcome! Have you done the Quit Program Workbook to your left? It will give you some extra information you will like. Read lots of posts, and post often; both when you need help and when you can give it. We are all very supportive here, and you will not believe how much information there is. Almost anything you can mention someone either has experienced or knows an old thread to point you to. Irritable and short tempered is just where we all were in week one, so be reassured you are absolutely normal! Congratulations on choosing freedom! Hi Jada..I'm a "mature" quitter as well..40yrs. I know how hard it is, but like everyone here says, the rewards are great. Find something to take you mind off it. I'm heavily into peppermint gum and sunflower seeds (in the shell..keeps your mouth busy). Reading the posts here keeps you sane. Keep it up girl, you can do it! Stronger than Sean Penn! Yah Hah!!Stronger than Jack Nicholson!! (trying to think of a female star that smokes...um..stronger than Marg Simpson's sisters!) Yahhh!! Hi J! YEP! Completely normal! Your body is cleansing itself out. Your lungs are healing. My advice for you: Throat: Gargle w/ warm salt water suck on cough drops drink cold water eat freezey pops Chest: Warm Compresses hot showers / baths If it lasts more than you are expecting, or if you notice something odd in your sputum / muscus, ring your doc and make an appt to rule out anything medical PLUS it will give your doc a baseline to go on since you are quitting. I followed the exact same path as you are. It will go away. Might take a few days to several weeks but it DOES get better!! And go ahead and cry!! One of the coaches & members told me crying helps get rid of the other chemicals found in cigs. You are doing wonderful!! Keep going!! You are half way thru Hell week!! Hi Jada! Take a hot bubble bath before bedtime, dim the lights, and relax. Then crawl into bed w/ a boring book, and BAM! Out you go! Your body is healing so be patient =) PSSSSTTTTT....did you read my post to you about your sore throat? Here's the deal on why you have a sore throat. When smoking, your body creates TONS of snot and mucus. Once you stop, smoking your body is still producing all of that crap. You expel the snot and mucus from coughing---thus sore throat. The cilia is awakening in your chest and cleaning out that chest snot. It has no where to go but out of your mouth. Do as my suggestions to you and you will be jsut fine. We all understand irritability and short-tempered! My husband asked me the other day how long I was going to use my quitting smoking as an excuse to b*+c#. Sadly, I was irritable and short-tempered before I quit smoking. Quitting has enhanced those qualities!LOL My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 83 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,167 Amount Saved: $664 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 13 Mins: 48 Seconds: 19

Jada, This is a sign of healing so although unpleasant try to take it in stride. Your lungs are finally healing and your body is finally getting rid of all those nasty toxins. Be kind to yourself in the days to come. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team
