The reason I quit has arrived...And here I am.

Dunedude --- !! The trip was maybe the first reason for the quit, but now the quit is its own reason, right? Dude you know you're way too close to 100 days! I have found the kicking the cat from one end of the room to the other is a great stress reliever. (Tried it once with spouse, but she kicks back.) You should be back home by now, right? I sure hope it got better for you. Sorry I wasn't here sooner -- peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,923 Amount Saved: $539 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 23 Mins: 31 Seconds: 17

Okay.. my buddy Dunedude is officially making me nervous. I e-mailed him earlier today but have not heard back. I'm thinking he's either on the road coming home from the vacation from hell or, once home, is dealing with the consequences of being away. I know he'll be in touch with us when he can. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,944 Amount Saved: $539 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 1 Mins: 20 Seconds: 46

The trip started a little rough for sure to say. That 1st day was a dooozy. We opened the slopes @ 8 am went to check little one into her class and she was having no part of it. I had prepaid for the whole group all the classes and lift tickets and I still had to stand in huge line @ lift ticket window to get them. Eventually they all got into their classes. I went (with 3 yo and her equip...and Mine) to check on 8 year old in her class. She was crying, at 1st I thought because she was afraid, nope she got the bug the rest of her class got and it is a nasty one. It has put any kid who gets it down for a week. At that point I went back to the cabin with the 2 kids. They both fell asleep on the couch. And there I was reflecting a bit I guess putting a couple beers away and dam I tell ya, if someone was near with a smoke at that point I dunno what I would have done. So I started clackin away on keyboard @ the SSC. By the time I was done with that rant I did actually feel better about things. The families came back to cabin we had a nice evening . The next day was a good day, my brother and I opened the slopes. The girls young and old were just too sore to go another day of it, so they stayed at the cabin, and my buddy and his boys met us later on the slopes. I had a blast snowboarding, my brother has a helmet camera he puts on and filmed me shredding it. lol. He is going to put it on youtube. I'll send you a link. Jimmythemick: you crack me up i'll tell ya...anybody that can throw an f-bomb into the mix is alright with me! Thank you all for your encouragement, sorry for not getting back in sooner. The wireless access at the cabin was kind of weak. I am still a non-smoker. Alls well that ends well.....Time to get back to work My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 91 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,826 Amount Saved: $445.9 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 7 Mins: 22 Seconds: 20

I made it back....the trip was not a complete bust. Since I made this post things got better, as far as my attitude. I only have time to write a few lines here now..I'll explain later. My sick 8 year old is making me worried now. She has been throwing up and diarheea since friday.....Keeping her hydrated is hard. It is a nasty bug all her classmates have had. I'll try and check in later and respond to each of your post's...Which I truly appreciate. I'll Check my quit meter this time please My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 90 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,818 Amount Saved: $441 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 5 Mins: 57 Seconds: 59

One of the main reasons I quit, is this family trip I am at. We are on this ski trip with another family (my daughters friend). They never knew I smoked and I knew the gig would be up on this trip when I went outside to burn one. Well I quit smoking in anticipation of this trip. What is going to hold me from starting in the future I don't know. As I speak I am here back at the cabin with 1 sick 8 year old and 1 stubborn 3 year old ( she wouldn't go to class this morning). My wife had a ski class, (this is her 1st time skiing), I didnt want to stand in the way of her 1st experience so I am here with the kids.. We arrived here yesterday and it has been just one stressor after another...vacation my ass!! All work and no play more like it!! And if my 13 year old keeps taking after her buddy I am afraid I might have to whoop a little (smart) ass up in here. Is this a rant or a plea for help I just don't know...I don't feel better... want to go to the corner market and buy a pack and say screw it!!!......ok it is a plea for help

Kevin, Get ahold of yourself, dude!!! This quit is for YOU! Because YOU want to! Because YOU want to be healthy! Vacations with children are always a lot of work! It's hardly ever fun and carefree once you have children! LOL And whether you smoke or not, kids get sick, kids are a pain in the ass, kids are stubborn at the worst times, kids always feel more "bold" with their buddies, they always wait until the worst possible moment to let you know how they feel, and that doesn't include anything that teenagers dish out! Know what I mean? Of course, we love them with all of our being but they are still children, not unlike we were!! LOL I remember one time my mothers best friend had come to our house to visit so that her daughters could play with my sister and I. Mom's best friend lived right beside my Aunt Jane. We had a great day playing outside, riding bikes down the cellar, throwing rocks in the pond. Well, when it came time for our day to end Mom's friend said, "We better get going, I'm sure my wash on the line is dry by now." To which I replied (unwittingly, I think), "Aunt Jane said that laundry had been hanging out there all week." OOOOHHHHHH, MYYYYY, Mom gave me a look that could've killed me. I hadn't meant to make anybody feel bad, I just wanted my friend to stay and play. Breathe deep, center yourself and dig deeper than you've ever gone. This quit is about you, you've done all the work and you are reaping the benefits. Don't let a stressful "vacation" get under your skin. You know its not worth it. "Is this a rant or a plea for help I just don't know...I don't feel better... want to go to the corner market and buy a pack and say screw it!!!......ok it is a plea for help" Don't know if my post will help you at all BUT by the time you finish reading it, hell, the store will be closed! ;) Be strong Debbie My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 100 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,015 Amount Saved: $375 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 19 Mins: 34 Seconds: 27

Kevin, I understand how you feel ... Been there, done that! :) That's why, in the other thread, I wrote that I'm not in a hurry to throw away my NRT inhaler ... because I still need it, from time to time, in similar situations ... :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 163 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,633 Amount Saved: $815 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 0 Mins: 26 Seconds: 11

Hey Dunedad, Don't be playing around with fire. There are so many others things that you should be doing other than thinking about smoking. I'm not getting down on you just yet. Throw those thoughts to the wind and remember you don't want to go back to smoking. As the time goes by, you really realize how wonderful it is to not have to think about smoking anymore. Good luck and enjoy that vacation smoke free. How many days? Aren't you closing in on 90 or so? Do trash it and remember, smoking never helped anything and if you don't want to bum youself, DO NOT SMOKE now.
