I call it post vacation stress syndrome. You just got back from Venice right? Not only is reentry very hard, there is also probably a huge let down after all the build up for this very special reward. I don't know if you do a lot of traveling, Phillip, but I do, and I really have to prepare myself for the letdown afterwards. I have to treat the time after a vacation almost like you treat the first stages of withdrawal. Take NOTHING you think or feel too seriously. Decide to just take it step by step, moment by moment, and console yourself that you will look at your feelings and make appropriate decisions after at least a month or so has gone by. Not many people feel much sympathy for the trials of re-entry from paradise, but they are REAL, at least for me. I often find myself hating my job, questioning where I live, and feel stressed by everything. So my dear man, do what you are doing. Rant to those who care. Hang on for dear life. Make no rash decisions (and smoking would be the rashest of the rash), and just go through the motions. Later you can decide what are real issues and what are just symptoms of PVSS*. I am going to add this to the DSM IV classifications. Maybe I will become famous!! :p *post vacation stress syndrome My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/15/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 641 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 16,028 Amount Saved: $2243.5 Life Gained: Days: 90 Hrs: 9 Mins: 15 Seconds: 34

INTERVENTION!!!!!! A loving & kind intervention to create more of what I want. Life, breath, longevity and bottom line - I get more time with the ones I love. I sense anger? Not sure how to express it? Used to smoke to hide it. It would all just go away, or did it? The past always comes back, if we let it. I remember a time where you were having some difficulty before, and you went to a cousellor - perhaps it is time to see that person again. This may not be about smoking at all - just not sure how else to handle the issues. Smoking will not handle the issue, only you!!!! AND YOU WILL. Peace to you I feel your pain - leave it here. Phillip! Remember back to hell week....not just for the reminder of how difficult it was (and how you don't want to do that again!), but also for the coping tools you used back then! Remember back to that first time you met your swimming goals! (I remember your post). It felt so great, didn't it? Most importantly right now....remember Venice! Dear Dear Phillip, you don't want to smoke. You want to hide. You want to bury the other issues. Smoking would occupy you in guilt and despair and then you could focus on quitting AGAIN, and not have to face the other stuff. See? It's an avoidance. You know this. You are much smarter than I am in these things. As you say, the easiest possible solution is to have that old numbness back. Comfortably numb. Not alive. Numb. Please don't go there. Instead, breathe, smell, swim, enjoy, bask. Be.
