Hello NewPapa and Holygeez,
Holygeez, you are very correct in your statement. The patches and the gum help us with the physcial withdrawls from the nicoteen while we concentrate on the psychological aspect of the addiction. Smokeing is not only extremely physically addictive, but also very psychologically addictive. We associate everything we do with a cigerette, we do this over and over again, everytime we light a cig. Think about it:
When your sad, mad, happy, scared, frustrated, bored, tired, excited, hungry, full, in love, on vacation, in the house, in the car, while drinking alcohol, on break at work, out with the boys, out with the girls, after whoopi, etc. etc.
This is ALOT of psychological habits to break...so you take them one at a time, one day at a time, one hour at a time in the beginning, reteaching yourself how to live without cigerette's.
The patches have a program as well as the gum. I'm sticking to my patch program and will be done with the patches in 2-3 weeks. It's the first time I've ever completed the program, so I'm quite excited, but apprehensive about finally being nicoteen free for the 1st time in 17 years or so, but isn't that the point of this....to be nicoteen free.
We need to NOT be afraid of our quits.....we need to be confident that we can live life to the fullest with cigerette's and the addiction.
No fear...only confidence!!!
