Thank you everyone for your kind words of welcome and encouragement. I plan to take this one day at a time and hope that this time next week I can give some encouraging advice to another newbie! This is day one for me, I've been reading the posts and think this site could really help me quit for good this time. Today has been easier than I thought. I'm using the patch but I'm more concerned about the psychological cravings than the physical ones. For all you seasoned quitters- will tomorrow be the same or will my cravings get worse? Thanks, Dupe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

good luck dupe, you can do it,, i tried the patches once but i had no luck, however i know several people who stopped smoking with them,,,, i have 6 more days till my quit day, getting little nervous,, but i started the chantiz and read several people on here using it and how well it done,,, also i was on bupropion to help me slow down on smoking,,,,, so right now i am using both the bupropion with zyban and the chantiz, i was afraid of drug interactions but could find no info on internet but paper came with chantiz said they found no drug interaction with bupropion, so hope they are right,,, who knows, i certaintly dont,,,, but i hope the patches work for you and eat lots of hard candy,,, chewing gum,,,,, i blow a lot of bubbles already trying to slow down,,, remember everyone on this board is very positive and very helpful,, so read lot of messages and when you feel the urge if you can get to your computer turn it on and read what these people have to say, it helps ,,,,, keep posting and next week i will be in your shoes,, the chantiz is 8 day start,, you can do it remember that, doing it for yourself,,, than that will help your loved ones,,,,,,,,

Well, 5 days doesn't make me a seasoned quitter... but on the other hand, days 1 thru 4 are very fresh in my memory. :) First, welcome Dupe! I think you're going to be very happy here...well, when you're not miserable that is. :) I quit for 4 months a few years ago, and this is my second shot at it. I can only tell you what my experience of the first few days has been. It's rough. I'm using the patch too, but even with the patch... it gets pretty tense at times. For me day 3 was the worst. After that it got better. Yesterday was day 4 for me and I actually had a very good day. Today it's been a little tougher, but I didn't get enough sleep and I think that's played into it. The usual things people will tell you are to drink lots of water, suck on candies, take deep breaths when the cravings come, go for walks... do things that will serve to distract you from the cravings... and will defuse the triggers. But no matter what you do, you're probably gonna be on a bit of an emotional roller-coaster for a while. At times things will level out and other times you may feel that you're all over the board. Just determine that no matter what, in good times and in bad, you're going to keep your eyes front and not look back. And we'll be here. We're all on your side! Welcome Dupe, Congratulations on your quit. I am on day 12 and doing ok. I am using Chantix also. During the week is not so bad, but the weekends are hell for me. Because that was my time smoke freely, not restricted from work. So I smoked more on the weekends. I am determined not to start up again though, so I am trying very hard to be strong. I do notice that with the Chantix my cravings are a lot more handleable and easier to shove to the side. I wish you all the luck in the world, my prayers will be with you and together all of us can do it!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 228 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 5 Mins: 6 Seconds: 38

Thanks, Somehow I just relate better to I AM A NON-SMOKER than to me saying I am a quitter. Somehow quitter just sounds negative. Keep up the good work! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 231 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 5 Mins: 25 Seconds: 48

Hey there Dupe...welcome and congrats on your quit! I have quit for about 5 days now, cold turkey. Days 1 and 2 were suprisingly easy. A craving would come up here and there, but it was quite easy to push them out of my head. I was very shocked at how easy it was...I was so focused on quitting. Then came day 3. The morning went well...until I had a conversation with someone and a button was pushed. That internal trigger...that said "go have a cigarette and everything will be fine". Problem was, I couldn't go have a cigarette b/c I quit. So I actually had to deal with the issue that was before me instead of running away from it. I am an emotional smoker, so I think quiting is more of a very intense mind game for me. I was SO proud of myself for speaking my mind though...and I focused on that instead of the craving and POOF...it dissapeared. Day 4 and 5: Pretty non eventful...cravings coming up every now and again, but easy to suppress. Today: Went out for breakfast, did 3 loads of laundry, made the bed, cleaned for about 4 hours, watched a movie and gave myself a manicure. I have a friend coming over later and we are going walking. I don't remember the last time I was so productive and had so much motivation. The quit is different for everyone. My suggestion would be to read as much as you can around here. You will find that someone has or is dealing with something that you are dealing with at any point in time...does that make sense? Just take each day as it comes and stay strong!!! Everyone is here for you! Dupe, Welcome to the SSC! Please start working through the program. It is a great tool that can teach you what you need to know about quitting. With regards to your cravings, there is no way to know for sure. Everyone is different. Keep your distractions and other coping strategies close and don't forget to reward yourself. It does get easier with time. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Angel - Congrats on making it through another weekend! We're doing it! It's wierd, I actually had the thought this morning: I'm a non-smoker. Somehow this felt stronger & more stable than the thought I've had/focused on for the past 2 weeks: I quit smoking.
