Tomorrow Is Day 1

And I don't know how to feel. I am excited that I will start a new chapter in my life. I have a lot of support at work, but not so much at home (non-smoking sweetheart = "what's the big deal? just stop!"). And I have a pack in the kitchen with 4 cigs left... I just completed my first week on Chantix. No real side effects except for the dreams...what a hoot! If this is a window into my psyche, I need a shrink (or 2). LOL. Tomorrow I start the little blue pills to work on my brain while I work on the habit! And I have a pack in the kitchen with 4 cancer sticks left... I have been reading all of the posts for the past couple of weeks. I have used all of the tools on the site, have my workbook, my Sweetheart took all of the ashtrays and did something with them except for one, because I still have a pack in the kitchen with 4 smelly butts calling my name... A week ago I couldn't wait for this day to get here. I took the advice of many on here and let the Chantix do its thing, and I did cut back by over half without really trying, but tonight there is a pack in the kitchen with 4 bullets with my name on them, begging... I don't want to smoke that last cigarette, but I want to smoke that last cigarette...to realize that it is the last one...EVER! N.O.P.E. I am so conflicted tonight, but determined to quit tomorrow. Thanks for letting me ramble. You guys are so awesome! MomMom

Hi All! So..last night I smoked 2 of the 4, and left the other 2 for my Sweetheart to throw away for me so I wouldn't have them. This morning is a little rough...our office is closed so I am working from home. MAJOR TRIGGER! I was prepared for evenings at home, but the whole darn day??? on day 1??? I have eaten all of the chocolate in the house, and have cleaned most of the downstairs already (in between reading posts, of course). I have no desire to go buy a pack, and the roads are too bad even if I wanted to. So I eat, clean, eat, read, eat, work, eat, clean, eat, read, and on and on. Thanks for checking on me. I'll be here all day. Oh Serenity, You must be my guardian angel. A warm bubble bath is exactly what I need! Thank you so much for the suggestion. A warm bath, my cozy jammies, my blankie, and my Chantix dreams. A perfect ending to my first difficult day as a non-smoker. Your name says it all! Thanks again! MomMom PS I can't eat another bite! Finally!

MomMom, WE are All excited for you too! Quote: "I don't want to smoke that last cigarette, but I want to smoke that last cigarette...to realize that it is the last one...EVER! N.O.P.E." Just so you don't feel alone, my last few cigs...had to be smoked before I could completely have closure.(It was like a mental image...with the last one..."good bye you evil demon") :eg: Going on 2 months now...no smokes since. The pain shooting down my arms stopped, my hacking morning cough disappeared, and more. Smoke that last one...and kick it in the Butt...say goodbye to the killer that would take you away from your children and grandchildren too soon!!!! love auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,221 Amount Saved: $209 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 2 Mins: 43 Seconds: 20

Here's the quote, courtesy of Shevie. Do what he says, and you'll be sure to NEVER want to smoke again!
Examine every cigarette you smoke. Why are you smoking it? Is it helping? Is there something else you could/should be doing right now? Also, notice the details of smoking: the heat of the cig between your fingers and on your lips. Notice the heat of the smoke as it goes into your mouth and down your throat. Notice the sting of the smoke in your eyes. Before you inhale, let a bit of smoke out and notice its color. Then notice the difference in the smoke's color as you exhale. Remind yourself that the change is because something was left behind, in you, coating your lungs. Do that at least twice with every cig you smoke and remember that it happens with each drag. Also remember that what is left behind is infusing itself into every cell of your lungs, altering their structures to set the stage for COPD, altering their DNA to set the stage for lung cancer. Every drag. mommom, When you smoke those last cancer sticks/bullets/coffin nails/sickerettes, etc... really concentrate on what you are doing to yourself. Get a paper napkin or tissue and blow some smoke onto the napkin. What color does it turn? Think about the fact that some of that is staying in YOUR LUNGS!!! Notice the color change on the filter... it goes from white to yellow... it's yellow because of the junk that is in that smoke you are INHALING!!! Concentrate on your thoughts as you smoke those cigarettes. What do you want out of your life? Do you want cigarettes to be a part of it forever??? Imagine yourself hooked to an oxygen tank, breathing from a hole in your throat AND STILL SMOKING! I've seen people do that! Do you want that to be you??? Shevie wrote a post telling somebody to do these things and more when they smoked... I'll see if I can find his words and post them here. I really want you to do these things while you smoke those last remaining burning arrows that you are piercing your lungs with. If you do, and really concentrate on what you are doing to yourself, they will certainly be your last! In fact, I'd be surprised if you can even finish all four of those poison sticks! Don't think of these last four stink bombs as your "good friends" that you're saying goodbye to... think of them as the disgusting, nasty killers that they are! Welcome to the site and I look forward to your quit tomorrow. You'll do just fine! Crave the Quit! Work days are DEFINITELY easier at the start than home days. Batten down the hatches for days two and three. Plan to keep busy but most importantly, plan a little reward ritual for the end of each. Whether it's a lovely bubble bath and a magazine, rubbing in some nice soothing body lotion, SOME nice pampering thing just for you that says "well done on making it through this day". Every day is a step up the ladder from here on in. Well done for quitting. Good for you Mom! Pay no attention to Uncle Phil...he gets his 'little blue pills' mixed up :p However, a lot of will power sprinkled with laughter has seen many of us through this! Keep up the good work!
