stickin to it: Bless you for asking. I feel pretty good about sticking to it myself, better than I ever have. I do have my moments of weakness, but I know deep in my heart and my gut that I've worked too hard on this quit to cave now. It's funny -- my husband is still smoking. In fact, he seems to be smoking even more. I was afraid I'd be tempted with cigarettes in the house, but you know what? Watching him smoke close-up, I'm not the least bit tempted. It smells bad, he smells bad and I can see how silly it all looks. So far, his smoking seems to be reinforcing my good decision. I don't say anything, but I know he's feeling the pressure -- from himself. One of these days, he'll cross over and join me. 100 days? Oh, yeah, I'll get there and then some, thanks to folks like you on this site that are so very supportive. Thank you. Stickin to it: Wow! You're coming up on your one year mark -- what a wonderful achievement. Congratulations. Everyone on this thread is so right about the "Doom and Gloom" aspect. I know it's not easy -- boy, do I know -- but keeping my mindset on the positives to my quit has made all the difference in the world on this, my umpteenth quit over many years. I just keep reminding myself how far I've come, congratulate myself regularly and recite all my many, many reasons for sticking with it. Thanks to everyone on here -- just wandering through here I always pick up such good help and it never fails to strengthen my commitment. Penitent and Stickin to it, Both of your words brought tears to my eyes, and although I am still positive, I'm having a bit (understatement) of a rough day. Because of your words, I'm feeling a little better and am confident I am personally stronger than today's gloomy mood. Baby steps, and I'm baby stepping all over the place today. Even typing this response back to you both is lifting my mood. I'm taking both of your advice, this too shall pass. The journey keeps us moving along through the bumps, the curves, the hills and the straight aways. The destination is what we all seek. In order to reach the destination, sometimes we have to strap a pillow on our boodies to get us through the bumps, keep our seat belts secure through the curves and hold on tight for the hills.....because the destination is within our reach....we can make it if we believe we can. Besides that we have all these SSC co-pilots sitting in the passanger seats, tell us which way to go (LOL, just had to add some humor and make myself smile) I truley believe it is within all of us to reach our goals and our destinations. Thanks again so very much! Stickin to it, That was just what I needed to hear today. I needed to hear that there is a point where the craves stop and you feel free. I know for each person this point is different, but it's just a relief to know eventually we will be there. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement and enlightenment. They mean the world to quitter's such as myself. Just checking in this morning on this thread. Extremely positive and helpful reading. Penitent, I'm so happy for you and your quit and so very thankful you are still here helping others here. Each day when I log into the SSC, I can't wait to see what words move me, and today as every day, I was not disappointed. Excellent stuff!! I absolutely agree with the distraction factor. I knew right from the start that with a positive attitude and a ready-made list of distractions I would be able to do this. It was important to me to know that I had my list in every room in case I got a crave and was feeling real weak at that particular moment all I had to do was check my list. My list in the last few weeks has grown immensely -- So much time was wasted on smoking, therefore one has to fill the gaps. Now I don't have any time on my hands.. zero boredom! As well, even through the stressful times - just the stuff that life throws out at you, my new found friends here in combination with all the new hobbies, extra walks, pampering sessions etc. has all contributed to lifting my spirits and gets me through it all. Live, laugh and love... all 3 of these will definitely keep one's attitude positive and filled with much resolve and determination. (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) What a wonderful journey !! Great thread! I think it's true that a positive attitude makes all the difference. And I can tell you that I got to put down "0 craves" today when I logged in. Isn't that wonderful? I love it! And it wouldn't be possible without all the long timers here telling us what to expect and how to do it with style! Good Kait, There will be times like yesterday, however be assured, they become less frequent with time. I knew that you would still be smoke free today, congratulations to you. Everyones quit is different. I understand that there also are similarities as well. You be the judge of yourself. I see many folks here that have reached day 100 and are feeling real good about themselves. After I had quit for two weeks or so I knew I was in control and had the choice to smoke or not to smoke; I chose not to smoke. Most of the craves ended in the first 100 days, and of course the first 100 days were not all craves, some craves. Month four was easy, two days in month five were nearly as hard as my first week. You are on week six, and week six is a whole lot better than week one. You have proven to yourself that you can quit, now stay that way. At six months, I was totally convinced that I never needed to smoke again, again my choice. I now am well over 300 days, do not think about smoking and feel badly for my friends that smoke and people that I see smoking on the streets. You heard from Penitent about 220 to 250, Mr. Ed, somewhere around 250 to 300. There are those will less days and those with more.
