I AM ALSO USING NICORETTE FOR HELP. SEEMS LIKE I AM STARTING TO WAIT FOR MY NEXT PIECE OF GUM MORE THAN I WANT A SMOKE. I DON'T KNOW IT IT IS WORTH IT OR NOT. NICOTINE IS STILL NICOTINE INSO?? ALSO SEEMS LIKE THE GUM MAKES ME COLD, NERVOUS, AND A LITTLE LIGHT HEADED. ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS WITH THE GUM? IS IT HARD TO QUIT CHEWING IT OR TO CUT BACK WEEKLY LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO? Oh, someone suggested to me that I take up sex and I am still dying laughing over that one - my husband would surely love it ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 103 Amount Saved: $22.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 14 Seconds: 31

NewPapa, you raise an excellent point. I've done patched, gum, inhalers, if the pharamacies marketed it and you need your doctor to prescribe it, I tried it. As someone said, i wouldn't worry about trading one addiction for another at this time (I'm an expert all of a sudden LOL). The behavior and the brain addiction is the trickiest for me. I'm on Chantix and it's the first drug to help smoker quit that does not contain nicotine. I have had it since last November but was waiting until I had my willpower and ducks in a row this time, I started it December 24. It's not a miracle drug for sure but it's the best product I've been on to date. Research it and the guy who invented it and, kudo's to Pfizer, they didn't price it outrageously! The scientist who invented it smoked more than me I think - anyhow have a read and maybe talk to your doctor? I could seriously see myself becoming addicted to Chantix "eg, I can't stop the Chantix".............. And, please do me a favor. I'm on page 40 of Allen Carr's book Scandal. PLEASE go to his website and download it - it's free. It's been a REAL eye opener for me. I don't agree with everything but I am agreeing with most so far! Keep chewing! We'll get through this. I'm new at this too so I'm not sure exactly how it works. I'm on the patch and I think the idea of it is to still get the nicotine but learn how to physically go without the actual cigarette. Once you learn new behaviors, you can slowly wean yourself off the drug. Make sense? trace My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 68 Amount Saved: $27 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 51 Seconds: 52

Good advise all (especially the one about taking up the carnal activities, lol). Ex-slave, you are right, I am quitting in large part due to my first child arriving on Jan 11th. I am going to make sure I wean according to the schedule, I guess I just got a little nervous when I woke up and wanted a cigarette and popped a nicorette instead and pretty much got the same satisfaction. Don't want to have to join stopchewingcenter.net at the end of my Nicorette schedule. I am using Nicorette to quit and the thought just occurred to me that I might have difficulty letting it go after the prescribed chewing schedule. Has anyone had any problems with that? I'd like to prepare myself on what to do before I get there or maybe skipping the Nicorette all together. Just seems like chewing Nicorette is like chewing tobacco or somethng. Don't want to trade one habit for another ya know. Any thoughts anyone? Hello NewPapa and Holygeez, Holygeez, you are very correct in your statement. The patches and the gum help us with the physcial withdrawls from the nicoteen while we concentrate on the psychological aspect of the addiction. Smokeing is not only extremely physically addictive, but also very psychologically addictive. We associate everything we do with a cigerette, we do this over and over again, everytime we light a cig. Think about it: When your sad, mad, happy, scared, frustrated, bored, tired, excited, hungry, full, in love, on vacation, in the house, in the car, while drinking alcohol, on break at work, out with the boys, out with the girls, after whoopi, etc. etc. This is ALOT of psychological habits to break...so you take them one at a time, one day at a time, one hour at a time in the beginning, reteaching yourself how to live without cigerette's. The patches have a program as well as the gum. I'm sticking to my patch program and will be done with the patches in 2-3 weeks. It's the first time I've ever completed the program, so I'm quite excited, but apprehensive about finally being nicoteen free for the 1st time in 17 years or so, but isn't that the point of this....to be nicoteen free. We need to NOT be afraid of our quits.....we need to be confident that we can live life to the fullest with cigerette's and the addiction. No fear...only confidence!!! I do know people who have used the gum past the time frame, but then they finally did quit. Let's face it - it's gross, then again, so is chewing a cud. I wouldn't worry about trading addictions yet. Your doing just fine :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/29/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 75 Amount Saved: $35 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 9 Seconds: 32
