Cigarettes Not Smoked

Congrats on your decision to quit smoking. Knowledge is power, so get prepared. Get prepared for your mind to deal with emotions without the mask of a drug. Know that the nicotine in cigarettes has caused you to be physically addicted. Take comfort in knowing the physical withdrawal will stop approximately 72 hours if you can resist nicotine products. Be fully aware that your life routine will have to be experienced without smoking cigarettes for you to be quit. So throw them away. Do not save any. What is your routine? When do you smoke? Make a list of your triggers (when you would normally smoke). It is better to think about all of these things ahead of time so that you can go into battle prepared. Replace your bad habit (smoking) with good habits. Read about healthy ways to deal with stress/emotions and start practicing your new coping skills. Get yourself ready physically by walking more, take in more fluids, get plenty of rest and avoid becoming overtired. Tell people around you that youre going to quit. Get yourself a Quit Buddy who will be there to provide you personal quit-smoking help and support. Fight the urge to protect yourself from looking silly if you dont make it all the way. Believe in yourself from the very beginning. Make it come true. If you dont make it this time, what matters is that you get back up and try again. Also, dont forget to make rewards a part of your plan. Quitting takes a lot of work, so you want to make sure you give yourself credit along the way. Keep a list of rewards you look forward to - it will help keep you motivated. Watch out for alcohol, social situations, other smokers, weight gain, and bad moods/depression. These things can make you fall off the Quit Wagon. Like Ive said be prepared for these things. Weve quit. You can too. Well be here to support you if you need us. I look forward to celebrating your milestones with you. Carpenter, You are suppose to come to us for additional help and support. No need for apologies, that's what we are here for. Start preparing for that 15th day. What can you do to distract yourself? How will you deal with cravings? A special reward for accomplishing that smoke free day may help to keep you motivated. Keep us posted, Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Carpenter - You got a whole new successful quit going here - stay positive and work those emotions in your favor. Be elated about your 12 days and when you wake up each morning, tell yourself how good it is to be a winner. You're winning the war against nicotine, be proud. It can be very difficult, keep using your coping mechanisms and take things one day at a time. Or 5 mintues at a time if necessary. I made sure that I didn't look very far into the future and it seemed less cumbersome. Reward yourself for everyday you don't smoke and cherish your new found freedom! Keep up the great quit, you're doing fantastic. Hi, Carpenter. I'm glad you posted this. You have a concern and that is what we're here for. Never hesitate to post. Sometimes we allow something we consider a past failure to become a roadblock to future success. It doesn't have to be that way. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. As the day approaches, you worry more and more that you won't make it, causing more stress that urges you to smoke. When the day comes, the junkie is running rampant, feeding on your stress. You figure you can't make it so why put yourself through the torment. You smoke. Self-fulfilling prophecy. The key is to not expect failure. Don't consider the last time as a failure, consider it a practice run or a learning experience. After all, you couldn't have failed in your quit because you are here, still quitting. So anticipate success, Carpenter. Welcome the 15th day with open arms because that will be the day you will exceed past performance. Remember, the only way to not make it through is to smoke. If you don't smoke, you will succeed. Start planning your reward for the 16th. It will give you something beyond the wall to focus on. Congratulations on 12 smoke-free days, Carpenter. You are doing great. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 488 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,778 Amount Saved: $1854.4 Life Gained: Days: 91 Hrs: 3 Mins: 30 Seconds: 21

Keep your focus and your head up. Support groups are here for that reason alone...to support you. We are here to encourage you...maybe provide a little accountability. We do not judge because we have all been there and understand the fear of failure during a quit. Just take your quit day by day...and remember why you are quitting. Just share every fear...we are here to walk the road with you. Have a great day. Soolin, Welcome to our community and congrats on 12 days! You will note that every quit is different. Each and every symptom is not experienced by all individuals and some symptoms come later than others. Take some relaxation time and let it all out! You can have a good cry and see that it will help. Do some relaxing before bed and really ease yourself into sleep. Start your day fresh tomorrow, you are almost over heck week (2 weeks done):) If something persists, than it may be a good idea to check with your doctor to rule out anything medical. Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
