Can't get the mindset right

18 years ago 0 8760 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Den, You've already received some great advice from your fellow quitter. What have you replaced smoking with? What particular issues are you struggling with? Keep in mind your only a week in, it may take a little longer for you to feel secure and happy in your quit. Until then, be kind to yourself and try to find new alternatives to smoking. Keep working through the program and post often. Congratulations on one week smoke free! We are proud of you! Keep persevering, Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

Boy, do I know where you are coming from. Been there done that. I am only on day 5 of this quit and fighting like hell to keep it. Rusty made a good point "you have to get though the withdrawal" My goal today is to stay smoke free. Gonna and I are going though this together and I really want this quit. Hang in there and do not beat yourself up. You have an addiction that does not want to die. You have to be willing to kill it a minute, an hour, a day at a time. Hello green eyes ... Stop.... stop... Take some time to go deep inside of you... I mean really deep inside. If you don't go into a Quit with focus and commitment, I mean grounded focus and commitment, the junkie thinking will find the holes and the weak links and will be right in there yet again... Take the time to find out how big and deep your commitment is to Quitting... It's hard ~ really hard, this Quit journey, green eyes... It's the hardest thing many of us have ever done. So it takes the desire to NOT smoke more than the desire to light up - each moment of every day. Without this clear commitment, Quitting will be off and on, as it has been for you. Take the time to dig deep. Go inside and see how much you really want this Quit, this time - be honest with yourself, green eyes... And let us know how we can help. There is amazing information here about Quitting.. so read new and old posts and spend some serious time here. If you keep doing the same thing, you will continue to get the same results, friend. Wow someone who is feeling exactly what I am. Quitting is so hard. I quit last October for 2 months and it seemed so easy at the time. This time for the last 2 months I've been struggling and I know my health is suffering. What happened last time to make it so much easier? I just can't seem to get into the same mind set as I was in before HELP please. I know there's no magic but I really want to quit. This awful habit any and all input would be greatly appreciated. :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/6/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 156 Amount Saved: $68.25 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 52 Seconds: 24

green eyes? There's no reason you can't succeed too. What's the longest you've ever gone without smoking? Make that your goal for now...and when you reach that goal, reward yourself ...then add another day. Keep on going...little goals... They add up fast. Those feelings/cravings ARE GOING TO COME ..so.. we know you have at least two tools. Your computer and a clock. When those feelings come, set a timer for 5 minutes and come here and post. Wait for a response. Kids home and you can't do that? Set that timer, take deep breaths, brush your teeth, wash your hands...run around the house... anything to distract yourself. Then keep busy (like reading about your addiction) till the next crave. It will come...but they'll come less and less and less. What do you think would have happened...if you never went and bought that pack today? You will survive each crave and you'll feel so proud of yourself as it gets easier... Yes, it's your choice to smoke or not... until... it isn't your choice anymore. That next smoke you inhale, could be the one that changes everything as you know it. If I can do this...so can you :) N.O.P.E. green eyes, I know that so much information can seem overwhelming but just start simple...just a little first step. You don't even have to be "ready". I quit with nothing more than a weak curiosity and without any preparation whatsoever...and surprisingly, it was very doable. I simply learned as I went along. I know you feel it's not right for you at this time but I'm not sure there ever is a "right" time. If there's even the smallest seed of desire to quit, keep coming to the site and participate with us. Learn what you can and let that seed grow. Don't let the thought of quitting get shoved into a corner in your mind. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 591 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,820 Amount Saved: $2109.87 Life Gained: Days: 62 Hrs: 13 Mins: 53 Seconds: 42

green eyes, I'm going to be very honest with you. The urges are NOT unbearable. They will NOT kill you. Smoking will kill you. You have to get through the withdrawal from the nicotine. There's no way around it. Just like if you were a heroin addict. You have to get the junk out of your system. And you won't if you keep putting it in. You will not die from quitting smoking. I am alive and here to tell you that fact. I am 57, I smoked at least a pack and a half a day for 40 years. I KNOW that you can quit. The only way to quit is to stop smoking, don't smoke, and push through. It's the only way. But remember that it is always your choice. Green Eyes, What did you do to prepare for those cravings? You have the patch, yet you also need some coping mechanisms to help you through. One member wrote that she made a week list of everything she could accomplish in the week. On her first day she began the patch and her list, she always had something to do! By Sunday she said she slept 12 hours the whole day, she was exhausted! But she didn't smoke! Use lists, chores, hobbies and activities to distract yourself. Come and post if you feel the urge and let us guide you. The members have great tips and tools to help you through those craves :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
