Nicotine patches !@#$%

17 years ago 0 8760 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Cincere, It is dangerous because your heart contains nerves that are easily stimulated by nicotine. These nerves are responsible for regulating heart rate and the force of heart contractions. Any side effects you are experiencing as a result of using the patch should be discussed with your pharmacist or doctor. Generally, it is recommended that patches be removed when exercising as an increase of body temperature can increase your body' absorption of nicotine from the patch. You may also want to discuss your skin irritations with your doctor. It is possible you may have developped a sensitivity to something in the patch. Hope this helps. Hi again, Just another quick reminder that placing the patch on your lower torso will decrease it's effectiveness. Danielle _____________________________ The SSC Support Team

Members, Just a quick reminder: Never apply the patch around or near your heart, this can be very dangerous and cause serious complications. To help your patch adhere, place your hand over the patch after application and warm it for 30 seconds to a minute, this will help it stick. Hope this helps, Danielle ____________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hey there, I am using the patch and was having the same issue but I figured out what I had to do...here is the secret...put the patch on your breast, just under your bra line so that the bra keeps the patch put and it isn't rubbing on other looser clothing that will promote falling off. this really worked for me. I was struggling with keeping them on my arms and would sometimes use tape, now I just alternate between the girls!!!lol good luck kat My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 233 Amount Saved: $55 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 18 Mins: 26 Seconds: 31

I put the patches on my shoulders and down the side near my triceps alternating between arms each day. My understanding is that the only places we would suggest that you avoid are your joints (ankles, knees, elbows, etc.) since the constant movement of these areas would make it difficult for the patch to stick. I read somewhere that lack of adhesion may be attributed to hot weather, skin type or activity. Please be sure you have applied the patch properly: Choose a non-hairy, clean, dry area of skin. Press the patch firmly on your skin with the heel of your hand for at least 10 seconds. Make sure it sticks well to your skin, especially around the edges. Do not use moisturizing soap or lotion prior to applying the patch. If you are using a moisturizing soap, try changing soaps or apply medical adhesive tape over the patch to help keep it in place. Good luck. I am totally with Cybrduke on this one. I also had no hell week and For me, I would not have made it without the nicotine substitute. While delivering nicotine to my stystem, it also helped me get over the "habit" part of smoking. Make sure to finish the system completely. I have been off the patches for several months and I am almost 7 months smoke-free! Good luck and stay strong...it does get better! In response to Danielles post about applying the patches on or near your heart. Why is this dangerous? I use this spot more often then anywhere else. I also do heavy exercises, Weight lifting and running. I sometimes find that This results in pain in my upper arm when I have the patch applied there ( on my arm ). Also I sometimes get itching on the sites where I have had the patch a day or two earlier. I thought that this could be due to some adhesive left on my skin but it has also happened after I have cleaned the area.

I wore it on my shoulders. I alternated each day. The only two locations I used were left and right shoulder and I had no trouble. Doctor said I was fine with that. Hey - whatever works you know? I beg to differ about the patches being a mental substitute. They are delivering nicotine to your system at a very controlled rate and help a lot of people. For some, taking off the patch too early in a quit leads top failure. I'm one of those. I tried a quit on patches and tried to eliminate them after two weeks - quit failed. Talked to the doctor, came up with a schedule and stuck to it next time around - I'm still quit, and off the patches now for months. I had no hell week, no heck week..... The patches worked wonders for me.
