The Way it Use to be

Thank you Stickin, Next saturday it will be six months for me, a great milestone. I always thought that I could never quit because I was a havey smoker. I stopped on April 1th so that I had the excuse to say: It was just a joke. It wasn't. After the first day I did a whole lot of researche and I even started to write a book about quitting, just to write it away from my mind. Now after 6 months I know so much about smoking and quitting that I can not believe I smoked so many years. At work I have to sell cigarets all day and if I sell them to kids who are barely 16 then I have to be careful not to tell them how stupid they are to smoke. When I see people smoke, I almost can taste the filthy mouth they have and then I am so happy that I got rid of that nasty habbit. But the most greathful I am when I realize, hours after I got up in the morning that I didn't think of smoking like I used to do, I think I've won the batle and sometimes that makes me cry of happiness. I am a different person, a cheerful, happy girl that laughs a lot. Thank God for helping me. Thanks for this thread. Dutch I just can't believe it's legal to sell cigs to minors where you live, here it's illegal. Dutch here's an idea ,to include in your book a part of sensibilisation about selling drugs to minors, what do you think? Just a thought you're a great quitter can't wait to celebrate 6 months with you :)marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 107 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,616 Amount Saved: $428 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 5 Mins: 6 Seconds: 7

When I first quit, after I finished eating, the trigger/memory was so fresh in my mind it that it would always hit me. And it would turn into a crave. I chewed the heck out of some gum after eating back then ... LOL! When I finish eating now, the thought of smoking doesn't even cross my mind! And I do not even remember the last time it did. It is great! Great thread Stickin'! Great thread Stickin! A couple of weeks ago I went out with my girlfriends for the evening. We had a blast, played pool, drank some (ok, lots) of beers and had a good laugh. The next morning I came downstairs and turned on the coffee maker - and without thinking I smelled my fingers! Now that was something I used to always do after a night of drinking - I would check to see how badly my fingers smelled and if they were yellow!!!!!! HOW GROSS IS THAT??!! I have to say that I was pretty happy when I came out of my morning coma and realized I was smelling my fingers and I didnt need to!! Pretty shocking that after all that time I would have the impulse to do that. THANK GOD I DONT SMOKE ANYMORE. Cheers, Janet My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 107 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,290 Amount Saved: $588.5 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 11 Mins: 24 Seconds: 21

Hi Stickin', I catch a train to and from work. The other day I saw somebody get ready to get off the train, cigarette and lighter at the ready (you can't smoke on UK trains). I thought, 'For God's sake, do you have to prepare for smoking so early in advance?' .... then I realised that was me 7 months ago Mr Ed  My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 226 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,798 Amount Saved: 1695 Life Gained: Days: 37 Hrs: 18 Mins: 41 Seconds: 14

Hi stickin - As always ~ a great thread, friend... I work on the phone with my clients most of the day, and I always smoked when on the phone... The phone is no longer a trigger for me (it hasn't been for months)... I also smoked after a meal ~ and once in a great while, I will think of smoking - it's like a distant bell... I say to myself - if I still smoked, I'd have one right now, but I don't... then I smile to myself... And move on... It does get so much easier ~ and so much calmer... I have forgot to want the first cigarette in the morning. When I was a smoker I shared a cup of coffee in bed with my husband and I was always in a hurry to get out of bed and go to the back-yard to smoke. When I wake up nowadays I spent longer time in bed, relaxed and make small-talks without even thinking about to have a cigaratte.
