I agree with Healer. Only you have the power to make what you want out of your quit. That does not mean that every single day, hour, minute, or second is all great. But when you react to your quit, or you react to something in your life ~ YOU have the power to embrace it or fight it. Not everyone struggles with their quits. Life throws us for loops at times, but your reaction to that is what makes us at peace or war. I chose to embrace it, and it has been a blessing for me. I have had my share of emotional ups and downs, but in comparison to some others, mine has been an easy challange. It can be for you too. Just let it.
What was the most important thing you learned from quitting?
Great question! I've learned in this experience that what each of us brings to our daily lives, we also bring to our Quit. As Pen says, the Quit process may not be anywhere near what is suggested here. For example, if a Quitter has a toolbox of coping skills that work for him or her, to call on daily, as I do, those coping skills will take good, loving care of you as you face some of the challenges on your Quit journey. Life happens in the Quit process, I have learned, our Quit journey mirrors our daily lives in a myriad of ways. What we bring to our lives, how hard we work to stay centered, to deal with conflict and fear, and to stay on focus daily, will also support our Quit journey... And in my case, it makes it a calmer, more gentle Quit. What's important ~ is that our Quits are as different as we are, so newbies, allow YOUR Quit to be yours... there is no blueprint! There is no right or wrong way to Quit! Hi Marie... My reference is not about perfection - or being perfect... What I am saying is that we bring to the table our experiences, our coping skills in life, our ability to move on rather than getting stuck in situations... Our abilities to deal with life are what we bring into our Quit journey... In other words, it's a mirror... Don't forget humanity - we're human, we get to be human... Addiction is addiction - it can get a hold on anyone... no matter who they are, or what their life looks like. And when we decide to Quit that addiction, you will find that what one does in life, how one handles stress, conflict, how determined one is in the face of challenges, how powerful that person is (do they own their own power or do they give it away to others and to situations) - all of this and more will affect their Quit journey. It's really quite simple, this philosophy - who we are - we bring to our Quits... One who feels like a victim in life, for example, will more than likely become a victim on the Quit journey... we bring our focus, or lack of focus, our character - to our Quits... And it has most definitely been my experience, and the experience of friends, that what we do in life (make it simple or difficult, for example) we do with our Quits... If we spend our days and nights filled with anger, for example, our Quits will also mirror and magnify the same... We bring into our lives and our experiences who WE are... Everybody's quit is different. Take a look at your hand you have five fingers and each one is different, just like five people each one will have a different quit. So mine was easy well that doesn't make me better than anyone but it is something to give newbies hope instead of all the doom and gloom. If you really believe you can do something than you can. No fairy dust, magic pill just determination. judy My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 220 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,734 Amount Saved: $440 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 17 Mins: 22 Seconds: 33

Every single one of you are such powerful forces and such important people for taking this challenge. I am elevated beyond words and humbled beyond self pity for having made all of your associations. I could not have done this with out all of you, and I smile often being apart of this crowd. Such a huge sense of community. For me This hasn't been a cake walk, but the joy far outweighs the previous disgust and helplessness I felt as a heavy smoker. IF IT THINK IT I'LL FEEL IT..I have no idea about tomorrow or ten years from now, I might get hit by a bus? (not likely on this island) Yet, I wont be smoking...That is a gift a gift I have earned, to set myself free. I share my happy thoughts with all of you. It's suppose to rain tomorrow big storm.. Ooooh what a wonderful day to make soup. Take care. We would all be enthralled if there were some sort of enchanted kingdom where the quit is a walk in the park. Anyone thinking that quitting can be done without any effort or that there is some magical pill that erases all the desire to smoke has gone far beyond the flight of the imagination. As we smoked away all those years, we were all waiting for that fantasy to come true for at least a portion of those years. Welcome to reality, my fellow quitters. I dont know many that make it through the quit process without a few tears being shed. I have been on these boards for over a year now and I have seen a lot of smokers come and go. I have heard of the quit bringing a grown man to terms with the voices they hear in their heads. Quitting is a battle for your life. If you are smoking, you are slowly killing yourself. If you are quit, you are fighting an addiction that wants to keep you well within its grasp. Your mind will scream out for relief from the suffering of withdrawal. I promise you that if you hang on tight and fight the urge to give in to those voices in your head, you will win the battle against the enslavement that smoking causes. You will break free of the chains that bind you. It is not impossible to break free of smoking. It is done one step at a time using N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. Take that first step.
