RIVERDALE MAN; I HOPE THIS ISN'T TOO LATE. You;ve come so far and i have looked up to your wisdom and sharing the past 4 months. I know you can do it. Hi RD Man What is it that you think smoking will give you? In your head you've imagined, you believe it will give you something...figure out what that is....is it that you're feeling like a doormat? not having any fun? relaxation maybe? whatever the underlying feeling is figure it out. I am feeling exactly the same, it was doing my head in for a couple of weeks. bottom line is you want to be a non-smoker without the baggage right? I know I do so theres got to be a way around this crap. I think with me its pushing myself too hard, being the good girl constantly and not having enuff fun time. you can do this, it will pass....u know it will, dont give in and dont give yourself an excuse to jepardise your quit - it will taste horrible & not be at all what you'r deluded junkie mind is trying to con about. keep strong...in a few days you'll be back on posting your inspirational posts.
The only positive thing that I can think of is that I haven't lit the next smoke. I haven't done that and that is the best way to quit.
Ironically THIS is THE most positive thing any of us can do. The rest is just so much talk and blah blah blah.. I'm tired too Phillip...really tired; but I'd rather see you admitting the difficulty of it....honest, real words. But as far as "whining" goes (go right ahead, btw) how much more positive can you get than not puffing on one. You have to give yourself all the credit in the world for that. Whine all you want. Seems like reality to me! Hmmm is right. For the past 1 1/2 weeks, if someone came by with smokes, it probably would have happened. Pretty frustrating after all this time. Distractions are fine...but then I didn't smoke (when I was a smoker) while actively engaged in gardening, biking, swimming etc., either. Sucks, but what can I expect. Oh well, guess this so why so many people don't make it. It ain't easy! My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 167 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,712 Amount Saved: $1503 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 13 Mins: 39 Seconds: 6

I truly understand what you are feeling, Riverdale Man. I felt the same a couple of weeks ago, I was so tired of this fight, I just wanted to be "quit" without fighting it all the time. But this will past too, I think it is just another "phase" we need to go through. Try to think about all the positive things in your new non-smoking life. Hang in there! I am tired. This seems like such a long drawn out fight. I don't know what it is, I have the day off, I am preparing a nice dinner and all I want to do is smoke. The image is flashing in my mind like a strobe light. I even seem to smell the smell and there is nothing there. I find shifting from this challenging because the thoughts images and the urge is there and so unrelenting. Ugh Seems like this fight just goes on and on and on. I think I must be deficient and I feel like I am loosing this battle because the battle just never seems to end. I will have a good day here and there and then everything turns to c$%&p and I just am lost in the thought of smoking. I know there is much to be said for the power of positive thinking and shifting your thoughts to something different and I am just plain tired of the eneregy that this whole quit is taking. Don't care if this is whining and I have no other place to whine so here it is. Hasn't changed much from the last post I started and I all just seems like so much rubbish. The only positive thing that I can think of is that I haven't lit the next smoke. I haven't done that and that is the best way to quit. HMMMM In March I said I would wait for responses to threads before I went out and smoked. There is a very nasty addict in me that is saying so nobody posted a response go out and smoke who cares. I know I care. I know I don't want the disgust I would feel with myself if I caved. I know I don't every want to go through the initial stages of this again. I know I don't want to go through this ever again. I want it done with. I want to think of the most beautiful aria or the most fantastic painting or the most luscious piece of silk ... I don't want to think of smoking. So why is this so, why does my mind wander to smoking? This is frustrating, makes me angry at myself and I get so fed up with the whole scene. Thank You for the responses. I got myself busy and invited a bunch for dinner and sat around and talked until now. Very interesting; one of the many discussions was about how the pleasure centres of the brain work, what are these centres triggered by and how do they work in relation to addiction. Another discussion was about cognitive therapy and how effective it is with treating addiction and what eastern and non traditional medical elements can work or be at play in treating addiction, Yoga, meditation, prayer and the use of the internet and talk therapy. Interesting discussion. I didn't have a chance to even think of smoking. I got to multi task as I was able to participate in the conversation and cook and serve dinner to 10 people. I find it amazing that there are so many things that can be addictive and how and what methods are used to treat addiction. I will post more on this because I find the whole study of the brain fascinating and what research there is into the chemical and hormonal workings of the brain and how these internal chemical structures effect and contribute to addiction and the recovery from addiction. Shevie I am going to have to do some research and I know I will be searching your past posts. Thanks for the gentle nudges and the concern. I am truly glad that you are all here with me. I know that your support, guidance and concern help and contribute to keeping me on the straight and narrow path, or as some might say the road to recovery.
