My *just* reward!!!

17 years ago 0 43 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
For anyone who wants to see...I HAVE put a desk on layaway at Kmart as my *reward* for 2 weeks down, and passing the ultimate test yesterday! This desk was on Sale for $99.99, down from $149.99! Even with sales tax it was still cheaper that the original price...and I believe this is an omen of things to come for me! I have been wanting this desk for a couple years, and just when I was due a *reward*...I caught it on sale...$50 cheaper, LOL! Just can't help but pat *myself* on the back! I have FINALLY done, what 28 YEARS of trying had failed to accomplish! So to ALL of you I say...IF you slip, don't give up! When you are *READY* to quit...it will be as easy as it was for me THIS time! You WILL make it, if you keep trying! Statistics say it takes about 7 tries...me it took about 4 TIMES that many...but, I NEVER gave up, I just became a *quitter*! I AM a NON smoker...AT LAST! God Bless ALL! Thanks ALL...and Lindsey, I didn't let my son & DIL (and they didn't even TRY) to smoke in or even close to my house! But, I guess they thought that by leaning on the roof of the car that the smoke would blow up & away from ME! But, I didn't make a big fuss about it, because I actually WANTED the *test* to see if I could handle it...and I did! I know some of you believe in *avoiding* the triggers & temptations...and for YOU that might work! But, I am one that believes the BEST way to get over something...is to hit it head-on, and stand up TO it! That is the ONLY way (for me) that I can get where I want to be...AWAY from it! IF I can BEAT it, it is NO longer a threat TO me, and the easier it is to handle WHEN it tries to confront me again! I truly believe that MY smoking was more *psychological* than physical! I figured early on THIS time, that my biggest & hardest *trigger* is my computer! When I was at my computer, I would almost *automatically* REACH for a cigarette without knowing it, and I would light up & smoke it before I KNEW I had it in my mouth! So, I KNEW I had to confront that trigger so I could break it...and once I broke that trigger of reaching...the urges for the cigarette is GONE! The urge I'm battling now, is the trigger of HAVING something hanging out of my mouth...and that is where my supply of straws come in! When I am at my computer...I constantly have a straw hanging out, and chewing the DEVIL out of it...I figure at least it isn't tobacco! I figure a couple more weeks of that...and it will be time to put THAT trigger to rest, too! I AM going to make it THIS time! I AM a NON smoker...AT LAST! Tomorrow will be a 14 days/2 week quit! I figure my average $ saved will be about $97! SOOO, K-mart has the computer desk I have been wanting for a LONG time on Sale for $99 ($50 savings)...and I am going this afternoon to put it on layaway! It's a corner desk with shelves & cabinets on top, drawers & shelves on bottom! Everything will be close at hand with this desk! I will be moving back to FL in December, and the desk will be FOR the new home...*SMOKE FREE* home! I figure the money I saved on cigarettes, is money better spent on my desk! It's one of those *build it yourself* deals...but, it will make a nice desk once put together...and it will LOOK nice in my new apartment! I really feel SOOO Good that I've been able to jump that hardest hurdle of my quit THIS time...the one that has always broken me down on other attempts! I am just SOOO PROUD of ME! I know I have a LONG way to go yet...but, I am confident now that I will make it! I also passed the *ultimate* test yesterday, when my son & DIL came up for a visit (BOTH smoke), and it didn't even bother me (except the *smell* made me SICK even from 10'away =:-@ ), but I was able to handle it! So, I feel like I have really *earned* this reward! I AM a NON smoker...AT LAST! Congrats & Good luck to ALL *QUITTERS*! Thanks all...and kypalak, just be sure to take LOTS of gum and sipping straws to chew on! That is what is helping me right now...and I am chewing the *devil* out of it right now! My hardest time is when I'm on the computer, because that is when I always smoked the most! I always *reached* without thinking, and smoked without knowing I even smoked one! So, when I am on my computer (a trigger)...I keep a straw in my mouth! Idon't find myself wanting the smoke...just something in my mouth! I'm fighting a trigger, but, I figure I have to stand up to it, if I want to get over it! Good luck at the reunion! My prayers & thoughts will be with you! I AM a NON smoker...AT LAST! Betty, you are an inspiration!...my quit date is wednesday, and reading you post from the 15th just gets me even MORE ready...you see, it's TRUE, i am an AVOIDER, and in the past tying to dodge and weave past all the temptations...well, thay beat me. But now i feel i can do this, i'm familiar with the head-on theory and you proved it works...i must be stronger than they!!! anyhow, keep it up...and THANKS! Betty. yes I know all too well about the straws. My first 2 weeks of my quit and especially at the computer I always had a straw in my mouth, it really does help. I'm addicted to Cream Savers too now but guess that's better than cigs.
