How long?

You are definitely not alone my friend. I too am in my first month, and boy does it seem like it's taking a long, long time to get through. I'm sure that you have some good days along with the bad. When it gets bad, visualize having to start all over again and going through this exact same month feeling how you feel right now. I don't know about you, but to me it doesn't seem worth it. It is not impossible to get through this, as we see constantly on everyone's meters (and that gives me hope). Stay focused, driven, strong, and positive. I'm a believer that a person can make this as tough or as easy as they want. Don't let your gaurd down when the rough times hit you. We are perfectly capable of this quit, and one day, we will look back on our first month and be even more proud of ourselves than we are right now. I hope you get to feeling better soon! Keep us posted:-) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 397 Amount Saved: $104 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 21 Mins: 13 Seconds: 11

Hi Final....A nap is a great reward....exercise is only a reward if it FEELS like a reward. Personally for me, exercise is a tool, yoga is a reward. I'm not sure how long you have been taking Zyban. I think it takes at least 3 weeks before you start to feel the effects of antidepressant medication. If you have been on it for awhile, and you are still not feeling well, perhaps it is time to talk to your Doctor about whether it is the right medication for you. I have no medical training so take it with a grain of salt, but I have found that people react differently to the same medication. While Zyban may calm some people, it may actually increase agitation, anxiety in others. You are most certainly not alone. Many of us go through our ups and downs. Please know we are all thinking of you and hoping the blues soon wash away. Hi Final - Just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I have also been experiencing "growing pains". Today, after work, I actually made a conscious effort to go out and reward myself. I have always been quite frugal (with exception of the thousands of dollars spent on cigarettes) but tonight I went out and bought something I "wanted" but did not "need". I've heard so many people talk about the importance of rewards and, honestly, I've had trouble figuring out "what" my reward will be. Tonight, I did find out that changing my routine (shopping for an hour) and rewarding myself felt pretty good. I think I'm going to have to make a conscious effort to add way more "rewards" (and not just buying stuff) I just have to figure out what they are going to be. However, I do think that "rewards" may be a very important aspect of keeping our quits positive. Sending warm wishes.......Hoping your days will get better and better. Hi all, As I said many times before, this is my fifth major attempt to quit smoking, and thus, I'm more realistic (but also more determined!). Well, I have been smoking for 35 years, and that "bad" habit is part of me, of my life! To break that habit, it will certainly requires more than 35 days! :) So, I don't look too far ahead, and always keep telling myself: "One day at a time, One day at a time, One day at a time, ...." :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 479 Amount Saved: $235 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 21 Mins: 35 Seconds: 29

How long..... Hmmm - this was the question constantly on my lips at the beginning of my quit. I would think it every minute in the first couple of days, every hour in the first couple of weeks, every day in the first couple of months... It does get better. Hope you are feeling a bit better, Final Quit. A month? Long way to go pal from my experience I am into month 3 and life is a yo-yo Up down Up down........ All I can say is that it gradually gets better but bide your time Think positively. YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE MONTH AGAIN EVER! If you have just one smoke you are back to day one. This is the thought that keeps me going day by day. Look at the posts from the long term quittters they are over it and so will we be! Hi Final, There is really no saying in how long it takes for you to feel better. Some people felt better in 3 days, others it took 6 months. If you don't feel good right now that is no fun but remember, it does get better believe me. My daughter had a hard time in the beginning of her quit but now she feels fantastic. What does help is rewarding yourself. When you smoked you rewarded yourself every hour with a cigaret. Now you don't smoke so you have to reward yourself with a candy or chewing gum. That worked for me. Try that, maybe it will make you feel better. Hugs from Holland :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 194 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,853 Amount Saved: 572.3 Life Gained: Days: 26 Hrs: 16 Mins: 55 Seconds: 9
