Hi, John.
As to what quit method is best, that's entirely up to you. The best one is the one that works. How do you know? You don't. Pick a method that seems the best to you and try. If it doesn't work, try another approach. Keep trying until you get it right. There are some here who tried a method once, it didn't work, they tried a number of other methods over the years, none worked, and finally successfully quit on the original method.
No matter what method a quitter uses, they all require determination, attitude, and committment to the quit. Without these three things, no quit method will succeed. With these three things, any quit method will succeed. The secret is not how you quit, but that you never use tobacco again.
It is not unusual for cravings to be delayed until after the initial detox period, 3 - 4 days. Some smokers didn't have craves until the second week of their quit. Don't know why, but it happens.
Hang in there, John. It's a rough road, but it is well worth it.
