Thank you Determined2quit. Take it minute by minute. They become hours, which become days, which become months. This has been an incredible year. You will get there too. When it gets tough, and I know it does, remember to breathe, breathe, breathe. Distract yourself. The crave only lasts a few minutes then it passes. Each crave passing is like a step up on a ladder. (Mine was a reeeealllly tall ladder.) You climb higher and higher. Oh what you can see from up here. What an accomplishment. Do whatever it takes to keep your quit going. Remember to reward yourself. I didn't think the rewards would be all that important, but they are. This site is awesome as are all the people here. Come here often. It really helped me. You have made an awesome choice to quit smoking. How wonderful for you, your family, and your friends. You can do this. I know you can. Stopped by to toot my horn and the horn of all those celebrating their 1st anniversary smoke-free. It has not been easy, but it has been oh so fulfilling! I still have the occasional frightful stray smoking thought. They are uncomfortable, but only add to my resolve to remain smoke-free. They remind me how hard and horrible it was in the very beginning of my quit. I can not express how thankful I am that I will never have to fight my way through that first phase of the quit again. It took everything I have in me, every ounce of faith, strength, and resolve to stand by my choice to not smoke. I am a nicotine addict and will be for the rest of my life. My motto has to be "not one puff". It is truly wonderful the freedom this quit has afforded me. I am truly amazed. I can go days now without a "bad" thought. I can remember the constant thoughts of smoking. When, where, how. Now I am free. It is such a relief to be released from that burden. So... if there are any newbies who might read this, let me join all the other oldies in reassuring you to stay the course. It is so worth it and it does get easier. Follow your plan. Reward yourself. Ask for help if you need it. I did and I'm not one bit embarassed. Do whatever you have to to stick with your quit. I am 1 year quit. I am Happy!
