Cuddles - Thanks for the BUMP. Always like to read Golferman. Breaking Free - LOVE Mary Engelbreit!!!! Awesome This also makes me want to mention -- I think it's a scream that G-Man always uses "Illegitimus non carborundum est" Check out the meaning folks. *GRIN* CobenFan

And the reason I say I "tried" is not because that is what I started out with mind set wise. I truely felt each time that that quit was for good. I say "try" because obviously I didn't "do" in the long haul. Tennielle

I've known that for a few months that confidence is what I lack, but more specifically it's a confidence that is stable enough to pull me through... So how does one like me for instance that has "tried" to quit so many times totally confident that I was "quitting" for good at the start...then a few hours, days, or weeks later I totally run scared? Just to find out that I was afraid of nothing and must quit again because I caught the "quit bug" and the only cure is to quit? Am I over analyzing, perhaps? But this is how I feel, it is what I struggle with, so it is VALID. I know I am not alone in this terrible spot...I've yet to keep a quit, but I won't keep smoking. In truth I've found myself lost in a paradox way worse than the addiction it started from. What a mess.... Tennielle

Hey Joe, Awesome post!!! This reminds me of why my wife is still a smoker. She has no confidence. She has told me she is not ready because she is afraid of being a failure. I keep assuring her that I and the whole SSC world will not let her fail, but on the other hand, I cannot force her to do something she is not comfortable with. I have to work on helping her build her confidence. I believe that a serious person has to develope confidence in themselves and their quits in order to develope a good attitude of gratitude for their quit.(Maybe someone will be able to figure out what I just said...lol) Thanks for the post Joe.
Rosabeth Moss Kanter, PhD, defines it this way: Confidence is the expectation of a positive outcome.
Cuddles It's better to be a non-smoker with an occasional desire for a cig than a smoker with a constant desire to quit...... Hi again everyone~ It's been busy in here! Hummy, Thank YOU for saying THAT :) *Hummyhug!* AND You're welcome Lady. :) Hang in there! (and hang N here :)) chuckle@Tony. I'm goN 2decipher it and then explain it!!~lol ('cause I relate to your wife *grin*) Tennielle, (take what you want and ignore the rest as we say ;)) Don't worry about 'over analyzing.' Try changing your focus from what you cannot do to what you can do, from what you lack to what you have, from the way things are to the way you will make them become. Since we become what we think about, it is "essential" that we focus on the right things. Use the power of your imagination to help (not hinder you.) Don't accept your imagination's exaggeration of the magnitude of your problems or failures.. for if you do.. you become paralyzed by fear and self-doubt! Instead, use your imagination to vizualize how wonderful things will be SMOKE FREE. By doing so, your imagination will become like 'your coach', motivating you to act. Change paths. Leave the Path of Self-Pity/DOUBT for the "Path of Positive Action." Do this by asking yourself, "WHAT DO I WANT FROM LIFE? Do I want to be happier? If so, you need to ask the next question, which is, "WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?" The positive action builds the confidence. all the best~ N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 165 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,651 Amount Saved: $825 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 18 Mins: 2 Seconds: 38
