I'm Quitting!

Hi Redhead77, Glad to see that you've started your quit. Hold on and keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times. If and when you feel like lighting up, come here instead. Within a few minutes you'll see that you can get past the urge. gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,405 Amount Saved: $372 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 16 Mins: 4 Seconds: 0

I'm now laughing! I tried a couple of times cold turkey. When I'd only been smoking a few years, it wasn't too bad. I went camping with a bunch of people who didn't smoke and just didn't take any with me - I was 15 or so then. But, lo, I got back from the trip, had a conversation with myself about whether I should smoke or not and, ****, decided that I would! Twenty years later I tried cold turkey again and it was most surely NOT for me! I smoked again and then,*now*, at 40 yrs. old, I found that NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) is a good thing. I'd tried NRT for a few of my past quits, but I just wasn't willing to GO TO ANY LENGTHS to quit like I am this time. Well, enough of my story. We're here for you 24/7. gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 92 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,394 Amount Saved: $368 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 14 Mins: 30 Seconds: 19

That is awesome, Redhead! Good going! Glad to hear that you're ready to put the smokes down. You're smart to do it now rather than wait until you can't breathe. Is this your first time quitting? Keep in touch, gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 92 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,394 Amount Saved: $368 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 14 Mins: 25 Seconds: 51

I understand what you're saying. I'm sorry about the loss of your parents. I know if I tried to quit under those circumstances, I would not have been able to do it and I would have been kicking myself to hell and back for nothing! For me it was better to wait for a more settled time in my life. Better chance at success, less self-flogging. So this is your second quit? Do you have a plan? I usually always check in on Mondays. I'll look for you and see how you're doing. gpw PS - I like your username! My birth-family is full of redheads, my husband is a redhead, and I have a redheaded 7 yr old daughter. Redhead... don't worry about being rude. I think in the early days of my quit I was apologizing to telemarketers for being rude... I would say "you have to excuse me, I just quit smoking". No one will remember. Hang in there. All that matters is that you don't smoke. If you do go too far, make sure you hide the bodies well :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 292 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,848 Amount Saved: $1022 Life Gained: Days: 25 Hrs: 18 Mins: 28 Seconds: 51

Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to our little quit family. Be sure to check out the program tools to the left and develop a plan for your quit. Quitting isn't easy but it is doable. Take it one step at a time, drink a lot of water and take a lot of deep breaths. You can do it. Redhead: Congratulations on your quit! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! I quit by reading Allen Carr's book "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking". It has been really easy, for me, using his method. I highly recommend it to anyone that is having a hard time in their quit. That book was my only aid. Use whatever aid that you need to get through and stay quit. Stay strong and stay quit!
