I agree 100% with Rusty... you're not stupid, you're an addict. And no, you are most certainly NOT done! I have had 3 slips since I started quitting in June and the first two (1 cigarette each), I didn't notice any additional cravings whatsoever, but the 3rd one was 7 cigarettes and it was definitely hard that time but not as bad as it was when I was in Hell week. The most important thing that you have to do now is prepare for what you will do the next time you are in a difficult situation. Make a plan and stick to your plan. You just learned a valuable lesson... one leads to one more, leads to one pack, leads to...... DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!! We are addicts and as such, we must realize that we can't have even 1 cigarette without going right back into our addictions. It's great that you have realized your mistake and are going to stick with your quit. Just let it be N.O.P.E. from now on - Not One Puff Ever. Crave the Quit! Hi, Ashley. Sorry to hear about your slips. Don't beat yourself up over this. Most here have slipped a time or two. Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs known and it's effect on the brain is very similar to cocaine. That's what you're fighting. What's important is that you've regained control and have returned to your quit. Good for you! :) I don't know about how severe your withdrawals will be now, if they happen at all. There will probably be some withdrawal, but not much or for long. My guess is your anxiety over what will happen is worse than anything that actually happens. Hang in there, Ashley. You're not stupid, Ashley. You're addicted. We've all been there. I don't think it's going to start all over again the way it was in the beginning. But please know that it doesn't matter what happens in your life: smoking won't change it and will just ultimately make you feel worse. Jump right back on the wagon and stick right here until your legs stop feeling wobbly. Only you can answer WHY I DID IT. Does it really matter though? So what if the cravings/withdrawals are back for a short while. You had the tenacity to withstand it before. As a remembrance of your relapsing...I hope you throw up when you start over...or have you already started? Enough said. It seems as though I have little compassion for you. Wrong, I frankly feel a lot of concern for you and want you to get this done. Just remember, none of us are going to get out of this life alive. I just hope I can do so now without drowning in my own body fluids (copd). How about you? Let do this thing...others have before you and you can too! you smoked not because you are stupid....but because you are a nicotine addict....AND you failed to make plans of how you would handle a stressful situation, or a situation where you found cigarettes staring you in the face, or how you would see throught the so called "reason" to smoke cause 'things happened'. The junky in us lurks and waits for moments of weakness for a long while....it takes determination and commitment to keep on the right track. When you first 'feel' yourself heading for a mode that 'reasons' that having a smoke might help things, you have to have a plan!!! and the plan has to distract and delay you from listening to the calling of that junky talk. Will there be additional withdrawal now......yes, there probably will be....it shouldn't be like the beginning though.....of course it will take a tighter grip on you with each and every additional cigarette you smoke. let yourself get really mad....this addiction is taking CONTROL of your actions! ARe you really going to put up with that?? You called the shots and maintained the control for 2 months??? Let's be resurrection that determination and stomping hell out of that junky that is drooling and hanging on your shoulder. Get the hell rid of him!! and then...go and reward yourself for seeing the light and avoiding a full blown relapse. Cravings won't take over if you "determine" that they will NOT. You are not going to give them the time of day! Your thoughts are going to head a different direction......you are going to think "positive" thoughts about what you gain by getting back in control of your actions!!! don't dwell on the mistake.....dwell on "fixing" the mistake....and bask in the glory of getting back in control. Your addiction will love it if you moan and groan and think about how hard all this is and how it would be so easy to just give in.....who wants to fight it forever after all???? well, see, you can STOP that thinking if you work on it.....begin seeing what is GOOD about being quit. How saying NO is empowering. Now get down to it and really kick some butt....you haven't lost a thing....you have learned a really important lesson.....take it to heart and get back in stride Katy My Milage:
