I, ummmmm (blush), would like to retract the last paragraph from the above post. All of the truly wonderful people at this site have helped me thru this process of quitting and I am eternally grateful. I could never have done it without the help here. I wrenched my back earlier today...no excuse for being bit$#y...sorry. There is always someone here to reach out when you need it and we are way more tough and funny and wise than whiny..... Stay close and be strong, newbies, just take it one day at a time and it's doable :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 179 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,582 Amount Saved: $895 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 14 Mins: 51 Seconds: 36

Duffis/Bob the voice of wisdom with a heart of gold: Remember: Every time you reach a hand out to help someone else you automatically receive a hand in return. Isn't it terrific how that works? So make sure you keep shouting those words of encouragement and helping others. "C'mon Judy You Can Do It, C'mon Judy You Can Do It." You'll be helping yourself up that hill as well. This is you Duffis. The wisdom is so uplifting always at just the right time. Neither of the above applies....was just irritable. First it's the discomfort of the quit. Then it's the agony of the gym. AND I, too, am no spring chicken. Today is better, thanks. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 179 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,591 Amount Saved: $895 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 16 Mins: 19 Seconds: 46

Each word we write and send out affects someone. We all read and intrepret differently. Smoggone, some may have been offended by the "categories" of people. I however, laughed 'till I cried. That is bulletin board worthy and that reaffirms my quit!! BTW Quit, 30 days is also a tough trigger, just so you are aware and can prepare for it. I wasn't aware of it and that one smacked me upside the head repeatedly until I finally gave in, so don't do that. Just wanted to make you aware of that one too. Crave the Quit! Quit, When I read 3kr's post, I thought to myself "oh no! All the newbies are going to get the WRONG idea about these 100 day cravings!!!" And that's exactly what's happening. Yes, the 100 day mark is rough, and it can sort of seem like the first week, but like Vicki said, you're a lot stronger and you know how to deal with them better. You have built coping mechanisms that you can put to work. So no, it's NOT like week one because you know how to deal with them. AND, the best part about it is that it doesn't last as long. In the beginning, you have Hell and Heck weeks and then Blah weeks, and honestly, that whole first month was kinda bad for me (up/down/up/down) but around 100 days, they usually last 3-4 days... some experience it for about a week, some only a day or two. For me, it was I think 3 days when I went through it (remember, I slipped and reset my meter, so that's why my meter isn't exactly accurate. I do know what I'm talking about here because I did go through this). I don't know about a year because I've never been that far, but I assume that it's a lot like 100 days in that it's a rough few days, but you know how to deal with it, so it's not as bad. Quit, don't get discouraged about this! It's NOT really like week one because you have a lot more experience and you know that it will end. Please hang in there. It might not be that bad for you. PLEASE, hang on to your quit and find out for yourself. Because you now know about it, chances are it won't be as bad as you're thinking. Please don't give up!!!! Crave the Quit! smog... I've got dibs on "masters of the macho!!" :p QuitOrDie, you know when you read a warning on a prescription medication is lists every conceivable reaction someone has had. When quitting it's the same thing.. there are tons of ways people will react to and experience their quits. The common thread is that we are all nicotine addicts who are simply in recovery. To think that we will never again have a taste or feeling for a cigarette ever again is unrealistic. You just deal with it. Life goes on. That is my approach. I don't smoke anymore and that is that. The nicodemon can kiss my ***. 'Nuff said! Be Strong. Be Smart. You have 12 days quit because of one day at a time and one crave at a time. That's how we all do it! I would rather be a non-smoker with an occasional desire to smoke than a smoker with a constant and obsessive desire to quit smoking. It's a choice! Ok.........er......I guess I fall in here somewhere Smoggone
In addition, you will notice there are the queens of quitters, the masters of macho, the preacher persons in the church of the almighty quit, the serial slippers and my favorite, the common sense quitters with humor.
But then again I never assume malice for what stupidity can explain so I l'll just drop it and hope you have a great day. Duffis

OK everybody. I am so sorry if I scared any of you newbies out there. I should think before I post next time. These thoughts of thinking are not as bad as the first week. They are shorter and happen less often through out the day. In fact, although I am still craving a little I only contemplated having one a few times today. I agree with diditagain that this is anxiety. It is also boredom because I am not running around crazy because of school and three jobs. I have time to relax. In the past I smoked when I was anxious, or upset, or bored and to relax. Because I am all of those things right now, it is the association with smoking from the past habits and not sure how to deal with these things as much without smoking. The cravings come, but they are not physical anymore, which makes them more of urges or thoughts. If I distract, they go away. They usually only last a few minutes. In hindsight, I can see that the main reason I posted the other day is - #1 - the reasons above combined and #2 - it has been sooooooo long since I've had urges, that I had forgotten how to deal with them as well. I am now over what the worst of it is and well on my way to easier sailing again. Newbies, and others, Please do not get scared because of my post or the talk. It really is not nearly as bad or as constant. You also get stronger each day you are a non-smoker. For the last three months I was so tired from being so busy that I had no emotions. I now have to learn to deal with my emotions without smoking because they are back. I know that as long as I don't get that first puff, then I will be OK. And that is how you have to do it - I take it craving by craving. Just make it through this craving and I'll be OK. AND SO WILL YOU :) :) Again, I am sorry if I scared you. Remember that everybody's quit is different and it is possible you won't have cravings during the 100 day mark. YOU CAN DO IT!!! Joe, you can be master of the macho. Queen of quitters sounds kind of uppity, so can I be a common sense quitter with humor? :p QuitOrDie, Listen to Penitent: By way of reassurance, 20 months quit today and not a craving in sight!! They have LONG GONE!! Hes the one here with knowledge of the long run. As for me, I think its the attitude you take to your quit. Moan and groan because you cant have a cigarette, and youll still be moanin and groanin months later. Be ecstatic because you dont have to ever have a cigarette again, and youll still be ecstatic months later. Will you ever think about smoking again? Sure. Do you give a flip? Nope. Need to learn some new coping mechanisms? Sure. Can you do it? Well, you quit smokin didnt you? Youre doing great. Itll get better I promise! Not cravin', never cavin'.
